It being in Japanese I had no clue what they were saying. This article seems to give a good description of the difference in the characters.

"Springman is balanced in power and speed. He’s able to bring out a shock wave that blocks enemy attacks, which can be followed up with a hit to counter. When his health drops to 1/4, he remains in charge mode, which allows him to dish out more damage for every hit.

Ribbon Girl is the idol of the ring who can float around with multiple jumps to dodge attacks. She truly floats like a butterfly and stings like a bee with attacks from above.

Ninjara is a ninja-style fighter who can perform mid-air dashes while teleporting. His style revolves around using multiple warps to juke around enemies and hit them with timely attacks.

Master Mummy is a power-type mummy character. He doesn’t stagger much when taking hits from enemies during his attacks, jumps, and dashes. He occupies a lot of space, making him the tankiest of characters we’ve seen so far. He also heals up health while guarding.

Mechanica is a heavyweight rocket girl character. By holding down the jump command, she can hover for a period of time and can overwhelm enemies from above. Similar to Master Mummy, she, too, doesn’t stagger when taking hits during attacks, jumps, and dashes."

I find that very interesting. All that said though - it strikes me far more like Pokken than Splatoon. It basically feels like pokken.. without the pokemon.

Pokken suffered from poor advertising and lack of characters. I hope a potential sequel expands to 25ish characters and brings major improvements  (kind of like smash n64-> melee)

I disagree completely, it will be, quite rightly, overshadowed by zelda, and by the time people are done with zelda, arms will be old hat and skipped for newer titles released later this year.

This is nothing like Pokkén. Different mechanics, different camera angle, different arenas, etc.

Why would Zelda overshadow it? They are releasing like 3 months apart.

I doubt it but then again Splatoon proved me horribly wrong. I still don't think it will sell as well.

I don't think so. Shooters are generally much more popular than fighting games.

After playing the demo, I think this game is insanely fun, and people who are indifferent will probably change their mind if they try it.

With that said, I'm not sure if it'll do too great, considering not everyone will have a Switch by the time the game comes out, I dunno.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

I can see why Nintendo chose the aesthetic for the game, trying to cash in on that Splatoon train =p

You mean Overwatch. :P

Yeah fair call xD I didn't initially see it that way, but I can agree with that!

It's possible, but it's not guaranteed just because it's a new IP from Nintendo. Plus, I dunno if the gameplay and art style sell the game the same way Splatoon did. If it is a great game and is successful, then that's great.

It doesn't have squids so with that they abandon a lot of sales potential in Japan.
