Forums - Nintendo - ARM "leaks" that the Switch is using 4x A57 cores on FB, but removes the post to avoid confusion

EDIT - Post is removed and they clarified that it's to avoid confusion.

Interesting

Yeah, it's pretty common or Nintendo to be tight-lipped about this shit. We often don't find out what the hell's in their machines till the damn things come out and someone cracks one open.

As per the Eurogamer leak so likely they were right about 1ghz for both portable and docked modes. Something like 18,000 mips I think.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ARM_microarchitectures

4.6x1000x4 = 18,400mips

About 2x that of the wii u at 9,000 but a bit less than 360 and ps3.

However later architecture with a gpu less reliant on cpu assistance should give the Switch a small cpu advantage at least over 360. Also about 3x Vita cpu performance.

Roughly just under half of ps4/xbox one cpu performance.

Kinda weak but not unexpected.

Well this isn't anything surprising. Anyway Nintendo never have detailed the exact technical specifications on their hardware before, so its not like I ever expected them too. Even with the Wii U it took almost years to find out everything about its internals and its power capabilities. I didn't care about the power of the Gameboy, 3DS or Wii, I just care about the games and from what I've seen so far I'm sold.

The gpu is more important with a games console anyway. Such is the improvements in gpu architecture with many things previously done by the cpu now done by the gpu or partially done by the gpu that cpu importance has reduced. The ps4 and xbox one haven't moved on that much in cpu performance from the last generation but are hugely more powerful in gpu performance.

All modern systems have weaksauce CPUs, even PS4 Pro has a slow-arse tablet CPU.

I don't even know what that means. Can it play the games I want it to play? Splatoon 2? BotW? Bomberman R?..

That's all I really care about.

This is pretty much Tegra X1, I didn't see ARM claiming that the Switch had 2x Denver2 cores with 4x Cortex A57 cores ...

The Switch features the Maxwell microarchitecture ...
