Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony bringing HDR to all 2017 TV lineup (1080P sets included)

Looks like HDR is the new standard as Sony plans to rollout all 2017 TV models with HDR compatibility... This includes their 1080P sets and their entry level 720P set. Good thing my OG PS4 supports HDR, might have to pick up a new tv later this year.

OP:

Yesterday Sony presented their entire TV lineup to the press, covering not only high end models presented at CES but also mid and lowrange models.

Every TV will support HDR10 and all 2017 and HDR compatible 2016 models will get update for HLG standard for broadcast HDR codec. A1, ZD9 XE94 and XE93 will also support Dolby Vision. Sony is touting that all these TVs will be great for HDR gaming with PS4.

Non-4K models don't have HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2... so no watching 4K bluray movies on them. Netflix and Amazon will supposedly work fine in HDR on them.

That's interesting, but the vast majority of Sony 2017 TVs are 4K.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Isn't Sony TV division broke? They should just quit wasting their time on it, I don't think I even seen Sony TVs anymore in major stores.

Good move by sony. The market could use more budget hdr tv. (Im happy with my lg e6 tho)

Awesome. I waited and opted not to get a HDR TV last year waiting for better models. Hopefully 2017 models are much better

How often do you window shop tvs? They sell them at bestbuy, target, Walmart, pretty much any major retailer.

Either way, I bet these tvs play really nice for PlayStation owners and their higher end models are known for having superb picture quality. It's always been an issue of cost.

Who the hell needs a 75 inch TV?
