Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo hints at true 3DS successor

They can keep deluding themselves, but Switch is pretty much a home console/handheld hybrid. If they make a new handheld alongside the switch it would just cement the fact Nintendo have no idea what theyre doing.

I think at the contrary Nintendo know better than fans on an internet forum what they are doing.

Most of their researchs and market surveys probably show that the public that buys 3DS a 180$ or 2DS at 99$ won't buy a Switch at 300$.

And they have said that Switch is designed to be able to come down in price throughout its life.

So while the $300 launch price may be high for people who spent sub-$200 on a 3DS, what if by Fall 2018 we have a Switch revision that is smaller and sold at $199? About half of 3DS come from the XL/New XL models which have never officially dropped below $199 so alot of them could potentially upgrade to Switch at that price.

We will see if they will drop the price, I hope for Nintendo they will, currently the Switch is priced out of its main public I fear.

If Nintendo can't sell a mini Switch at sub 200, then it would be potential 3DS successor. But currently, at this price, size and with home console likes games it's more a home console you can easily move.

Yes Nintendo do what SEGA did..compete with yourself (hell Sony is doing this now as is MS). No reason for this. I do feel they are just saying this to be on the safe side in case Switch doesn't do that well.

Why would they do this if the main drive of the Switch is its portability? Like some have mentioned, it just sounds like the two consoles would be competing against themselves seeing as they would share similar franchises.

What a Dumb Dumb Dumb statement. What sort of message does that send to people who are interested in a Nintendo handheld but are not 100% onboard with the switch?
Don't buy the switch cause we will probably will release a replacement for the 3ds later.

I guess they are hearing from internal surveys that the switch is not going to set the world on fire, which most people apart from the most ardent Nintendo supporter does agree with but still what is he thinking?

a clamshell switch... that won't connect to your tv.... oh what the hell... i have no idea how it will look like.

I don't want a successor, what's true point of dual screens anymore, Kimishima is probably just talking about releasing a handheld only version of the Switch (Which would be a good idea)

Why wouldn't 3DS owners buy a Switch if their favorite franchises are continued exclusively on it. Why would a next generation handheld system "kill" their handheld market?

Same reason 3DS owners didn't start buying the 3DS in large numbers until Nintendo slashed the price by $80 to bring the price down to $169. Do you honestly think that if people weren't willing to pay $249 for a handheld that they would all of a sudden be willing to pay $50 more? The majority of the handheld consumers clearly weren't willing to spend $249 on the 3DS nevermind $300 for the Switch? What interesting games are there announced for the Swich that would even attract the handheld market? The only games I've seen are that of home console games announced for the Switch. If I were a handheld enthusiast I wouldn't be too attracted to the Switch for various reasons.
