I think at the contrary Nintendo know better than fans on an internet forum what they are doing.

Most of their researchs and market surveys probably show that the public that buys 3DS a 180$ or 2DS at 99$ won't buy a Switch at 300$.

And they have said that Switch is designed to be able to come down in price throughout its life.

So while the $300 launch price may be high for people who spent sub-$200 on a 3DS, what if by Fall 2018 we have a Switch revision that is smaller and sold at $199? About half of 3DS come from the XL/New XL models which have never officially dropped below $199 so alot of them could potentially upgrade to Switch at that price.
