People started making NX threads in 2015, I don`t see what is the problem to talk about PS5 and Scorpio now. It`s the same with PS4 and XB 720 back in 2012.
And anyway, I won`t trust any spec until official release. PS4 for a long time was rumoured to keep using Cell archtecture, and maybe it even was in Sony`s plan but they decided to use x86 duo to many factors. And remember when Xbox 720 was supposed to use Larrabee GPGPU.
It`s not impossible for Sony and MS to keep x86, but this alone won`t guarantee retro-compatibility. And even if Sony and MS decided to use another processor architecture it isn`t impossible to make it compatible with earlier gens. I do think Sony was extremely lazy with PS4 backwards compatbility, it should be extremely easy to make a PS1 and PS2 emulator for PS4, even PS3 if they felt like could be done too.
I do think backwards compatibility is extremely important, since now digital sales are very important, I should be able to play my games in any device I buy. Like, if I bought an app for an iPhone 3GS I should be able to play it in my iPhone 7, the same things with games. And I think it also would work as a ecosystem lock-in thing.
