Forums - Nintendo - Certain online features on the Switch might not be limited to smartphone app after all

Well, that'd be good. Certainly would paint a better picture of them when it comes to managing their online ecosystem.

Thinking about it, if the mobile app ends up being optional it would be regarded as a very much convinient and clever option provided by Nintendo, since you're most likely going to play online on the go via your smartphone's hotspot, so you can organize it all on your phone and play instantly after that, or perhaps to save battery you wouldn't need to even turn it on until you confirm your friends are going to be playing, or managing them without the system on you.

That sounds awesome!

You can see your friends are online, even though you cant play with them if you dont pay for a sub.

Seems usefull...

I saw something about this earlier, but ultimately its a wait and see thing for because it still seems somewhat shakey

I don't get why they just don't go out and comfirm that we don't need the app in that case, they have been getting quite a bit of bad press from this.

The Nintendo Overview page does have a coming soon banner for the Online Service.
Pretty sure we'll get the details before launch.

That would be a relieve, but wouldn't that mean the app is useless?

Nintendo thinks we're idiots. BT 4.1 drains next to no battery. It's like a 1000th of what the screen drains. God I hate them so much.

The Switch uses BT 4.1, only the Joy-Cons use the BT 3.1 to bring down costs presumably, since they're already expensive as it is. You probably won't even notice the difference :/

Good if it's true. I welcome mobile app as an option, but definitely not as a necessity

Nevermind I misread it as not having BT for headphones at all.
