I consider The Last of Us a horror game so no.

Please Watch/Share this video so it gets shown in Hollywood.
Of the ones I played (which is a fair amount*), it's the current king of the hill. I'm still only a couple of hours in, though. Also, it will probably take a few weeks for the "newness" to wear off. I'm still hyped up right now.
*All mainline REs, Silent Hills, Zombi U, Eternal Darkness, PT, Outlast, Condemned 1&2, Evil Within , Dead Space series, and a few others.
Does it exceed P.T.?

Good question. It would have to compete with Fatal Frame 4 for that title.

In VR its the best horror game ever made. Nothing comes close to that VR expierence in terms of horror.
For those poor guys that cant afford VR its still an average - good horror game

Outlast is a good example, by the end you're just like "OMG you stupid fat pig man, just get out of my way and let me finish the game". But no matter what, you're forced to sneak past him. Not to mention that Outlast and Amnesia have those stupid light convservation mechanics with the camera batteries and lamp oil. Slender ends up being better than those two because there is no light conservation mechanic and because it's shorter so you get less frustrated, but I still don't trhink it's as good as what I've seen of RE7 so far. The ideal horror game is one that is scary but not frustrating, and I'd say that's RE7 so far. The boss fights are a bit frustrating at first, until you learn the mechanics of the boss and how to advance the fight to later stages, but outside of the boss fights it's only really frustrating if you accidentally miss the shotgun and have to fight those 7 or 8 enemies in the basement with nothing but a pistol. |
That was me in the basement without a shotgun and I didn't know you could actually kill them with the pistol, and that they wouldn't simply respawn anyway. I was trying to stay unnoticed, sneaking around, but had to keep running out of there back to the safe room. I died many times in there getting cornered by 3 or 4 molded.
After I got the shotgun I ofcourse ran out of shells before running out of molded, same end result. Yet instead of giving in and turning on the hud (which makes aiming trivial in VR) I got better at headshots with the pistol after getting my nerves down. Still to conserve ammo I managed to take a few down with the pocket knife. Time it right, dodge, defend, keep slashing the head and eventually it will pop :)
That boss fight in the disection room was epic in VR. I lost the first time, pinned down on the ground looking up, I had my shotgun raised, full blast in his head, yet he still cut my head off. So awful :) Then the next time I got to the second stage of the fight, holy shit! Got it on the 3rd attempt.
I had it recording when I finally made it through the basement

It's quite disorientating at times watching it back in 2D, you have a much better sense of surroundings in VR. Plus double the framerate, 4 times for head movements helps a lot. I see I got bold with the pocket knife when the AI ran into a glitch. There are some clipping problems too I never noticed while playing.
The game is not perfect in VR. There's still obvious 2D effects like transparant smoke textures that look weird in 3D, some textures on walls appear to be floating just before the wall, some gates are nothing but a 2D picture instead of a 3D object etc. Yet 99% of it looks and feels real enough to touch. VR is definitely the next gen of gaming. I have no idea what the game looks like on tv, have no desire to find out.

Man after my own heart.
But take it easy on the story elements. Don't want to spoil it for anyone--including me!
Based on the demo, no. The vhs tapes are scary but the rest is quite bad. Awful immersion breaking voice acting from the wierd family.
