Forums - Sony - PSP outsells everything else combined in Japan this week

I think the PSP has been viewed as dead simply compared to the DS. But a resurrection annoucement will have to wait until the new popularity extend beyond Japan. Also this is the biggest release the PSP will see in Japan in it's life.

But in general
I think part of the uptick is the new model. Also I think many Japanease have had the DS for many years and are viewing the PSP as a second console or upgrade. The market has moved more and mroe portable and home console have fallen sharply. I think that with the lack of a DS2 on the horizon many Japanease gamers see the PSP as the only option if they have "been there done that" with the DS.

Final* Word on Game Delays:

The game will not be any better or include more content then planned. Any commnets that say so are just PR hogwash to make you feel better for having to wait.

Delays are due to lack of proper resources, skill, or adequate planning by the developer.

Do be thankful that they have enough respect for you to delay the game and maintain its intended level of quality.

*naznatips is exempt

I never though PSP would see these kind of numbers, MHP2G has done its job well. Hope DS posts these numbers when that Dragon Quest game comes out.

Wow PSP hasn't hit 100k in Japan since the holidays ended and now it zooms up past everything else. Real impressive hardware sales.

I know everybody said Monster Hunter was big in Japan but this is quite impressive indeed.

Impressive, and interesting. Now DS has been dead in the water(for DS 50k a week is dead, lol) for a while, the PSP sees a chance to shine. It'll be interesting to see what happens when DQIX launches: can the DS establish it's sales from 2006-2007 again?

It will get back on the top , but it will not reach its 07 glory in Japan ... that is if a redesign doesnt comes along :P

That's good news for what is after all a struggling console.
The software support has really kicked in now, and it seems to do the job of moving hardware!

People (nintendo fanboys) last year new the psp was dead simply because the DS was eating it up. Now the tables have turned, I hope the GoW psp bundle can increase psp sales in North america just enough for the psp to > DS sales world wide.
