Still think Switch has poor support?

Yes 184 43.19%

No 116 27.23%

idk : waiting for E3 to s... 105 24.65%

see results 21 4.93%

Total:426

The lineup will feel lackluster for people who are only interested in Western mature games.
For people with a more open-minded approach to gaming, it´s a good lineup, IF there are no delays in major games (Xenoblade 2, Splatoon 2, Mario Odyssey etc)
The only thing that really piss me off are those "seasonal launch windows". I´d rather have a specific month indicated for the launch instead of a "season", because the latter seems vague.

I don't see how anyone can say the Switch has poor support, unless exclusives are THAT important to you, but PS4 and XB One has clearly shown exclusives don't matter so much anymore, and a number of these games are at least exclusive to NINTENDO consoles. Besides, Switch has a (currently) semi-exclusive feature of their ports by having the enhanced rumble and portability. Example being - I've playing roughly 70% through the main quest in Skyrim and knocked out a number of side quests, but it is one of my most anticipated Switch games. And more exclusives will certainly come in time. History has shown that console launches typically don't have a ton of exclusives anyway.

You can make the argument that it is lacking in the sort of "epic blockbuster" titles from 3rd parties, particularly from western devs, but frankly, I don't find most of these types of games too compelling anyway, and I don't think I'm alone in this..

How do you figure?

Switch has home functionality, uses inexpensive industry standard media, uses inexpensive industry standard power supplies, has a bigger launch library and first year, has a more innovative control scheme, has the best in the industry local multiplayer, has multiple user accounts per system, .... I'll stop there.

Wii U had Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed, FIFA & Madden day 1 as well and they did absolutely nothing for Wii U. It doesn't matter how many games a system has if those games don't appeal to the audience that is interested in that device or if people would rather play those games elsewhere.

Thats why we are seeing a pretty solid amount of Japanese, indie & kid/family software releasing throughout the year for Switch, because these are the type of games which had success on 3DS/Wii U so their chances of success on Switch are significantly higher than mainstream western titles.

Mainstream western games really havent done well on Nintendo platforms in recent history, that doesnt mean Nintendo should go out of their way to shun them but at the same time they shouldnt go out of their way to appease them.

Because the public that likes these games also wants to play Battlefield, GTA and others. It simply made more sense to get a PS4 or X1. Why would you get a console that plays only 10% of 3rd party games if that's what you like? Mainstream western games haven't sold on Nintendo platforms because they got only a fraction of them. It's not like the "Nintendo public" doesn't like it, Nintendo lost market share since the N64 and that's the exact reason why Wii U reached an all-time low.

Japanese games help with Japan. Just Japan. Indie games won't move a single unit. Kid/family has a decent appeal and it should be a focus, like the original Wii.

Anyway, the point isn't the 3rd party support. My point is that the games listed aren't huge sellers, except by Zelda, Splatoon, MK and a few other. Two are remasters. The highest-selling game there is Zelda, that can do something between 5-10M. Even though, the other consoles will go to Holidays with several titles that sell 15M easily and maybe a lower price point.

From a home console perspective, the Switch can't compete unless E3 is packed with announcements. At least Sony has room to cut the price. They are just keeping it high because the sales are good. They barely were up YoY because they refused to cut the price of the console. A 250 dollars price point is easy for Sony and probably MS. I would expect bundles for 200 dollars in Nov/Dec.

As a handheld, it has a free road ahead to replace 3DS, but it comes with a price point 50 dollars higher than the one that made 3DS flop initially. It's a whole 130 dollars to the pricing that made 3DS sell well.

Sure, I can agree with that first paragraph, having COD & Ass Creed doesnt matter if you are missing out on other big titles with similar appeal like BF or GTA. And thats why Nintendo cant make this market its top priority because its highly unlikely they will get full support of these type of games.

Alot of Japanese franchises do well outside of Japan, for one Nintendo games are Japanese and are huge globally, other games like Monster Hunter, Yokai Watch, Bravely Default, etc have done well in non-Japanese territories. There has also been some indie games that were massive hits, Minecraft (before Microsoft bought Mahjong), Rocket League, Terraria, etc.

Individual games dont need to be massive system sellers, a system needs a steady flow of appealing games. Somebody is more likely to buy a system that has a couple dozen moderately appealing games per year vs one that has 2-3 major releases a year, for example 3DS vs Wii U. 3DS has a ton of good-great games while Wii U has a handful of good-great games. Its not quality vs quantity, its quality+quantity. I also think you are underselling games for being remasters, take a look at GTAV or TLOU.

Well you are wrong there, PS4/XBO did get official price cuts and additional holiday deals this year.

Yes 3DS price was an issue initally but it wouldnt have been nearly as bad if it didnt have poor marketing/branding (many thought it was a DS revision), had a poor gimmick (glassless 3D added little value) and had a terrible post launch lineup (OoT 3D was the only major game between launch and price cut).

As of now those issues dont seem to apply to Switch, the marketing/branding lets people know its a brand new device, the hybrid concept has far more functionality and appeal than glassless 3D & it is slated to have Zelda, Mario Kart, ARMS & Splatoon within the first 6 months along with a solid lineup of Japanese/indie/kid/family titles mixed in so while price may be an issue for Switch it likely wont be as bad as it was for 3DS.

There's better responses to this, because it has home functionality and the Vita launch lineup is absolutely better than the Switch's (or really every console in the past few years).

I don't think anyone should interpret a comparison to Vita as an insult (outside of a sales comparison, of course).

Enough on there to keep me interested, and I imagine once it has a larger install base we'll be seeing a lot of PS4/Switch games from Japan. Doubting that we'll see much western support but you have PS4/X1/PC for that

Looks like the Switch is actually getting quite a few games, which is really nice to see! Sad to see Nintendo's total mishandling of this fact!

How did Nintendo mishandle this? At the presentation they announced that more than 80 games are in development for Switch and they showed footage for a good number of games.

Nintendo can't do anything about gaming forums jumping to wrong conclusions. When someone like you says things like Zelda and Mario Kart don't count for much in the launch window, how is any of this Nintendo's fault? You only have yourself to blame for buying into the wrong narrative that is being pushed hard by other forum members.

A simple example of this is the claim that Switch won't get third party support. You are prone to buy into such a narrative, because you aren't interested in fact-checking. But if you actually took an honest look at the big picture, you'd quickly notice that people aren't talking about third party support despite using that term. What they always mean is AAA support, but they don't use that term because that would still leave Nintendo with a lot of third party support and that would contradict the overall narrative of "Nintendo messed up again". In reality, Switch is set up to absorb the software pipelines of Wii U, 3DS and Vita. Meanwhile, the PS4 and XB1 won't get the third party support that has been home at handhelds; these two consoles are going to lose out on a lot of RPGs.

How they mishandled the presentation of the Switch? Show, don't tell. Don't TELL us you have 80 games in development, SHOW us the games! They TOLD us Nintendo would have an unprecedented 3rd party support with the Wii U, but they didn't SHOW us the games - and we all know how that turned out. And showing the footage of a good number of games isn't exactly the same thing. This is miscommunication, and it's all on Nintendo. Spacing out the game announcements over a period of time isn't that smart of a move, since that means less games to show of in the big presentation. Just look around yourself; people everywhere seem to be thinking the Switch has few games coming to it. That picture superchunky has posted in the OP, it didn't have that many names just a week ago. It didn't even have half the names a week ago. That's what I'm talking about when I'm talking about Nintendo mishandling the coomunication/game announcements.

You know what? I think the Switch will be doing just fine without 3rd party support, but ONLY because it's getting Nintendo's full attention; it's getting all the home console games AND all the portable games. Yes, it'll probably see a lot of Japanese support, and probably quite a few indie titles as well. While it might not receive the AAA-games, like you said, it will get a lot of other games. I'm fine with that. But even here, Nintendo is leaving out information; we still don't know what version of SKyrim we're getting. Is it the Special Edition? Is it a costum made version just for the Switch? We don't know. Nintendo has become really bad at conveing information to us.

I still don't understand how Wii u went from 3 mil in two months to just 13 million lifetime. I guess you never can guess how a console will do until at least 1.5 years after

There's a certain very dedicated crowd that will jump up and buy anything Nintendo puts out right away. Once they're done, the sales quiet down. I expect to see the same with the Switch to an extent, although it will do better than the Wii U did.

Without any E3 add-ons, my Switch 2017 looks like:

1. Zelda BotW
2. Bomberman R
3. Fast RMX
5. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
6. Sonic Mania
7. Splatoon 2
8. Octopath Traveller
9. Skyrim
10. Yooka-Laylee
11. Xenoblade 2
12. Super Mario Odyssey
13. Dragon Quest XI

Add "Horizon", "Nier Automata", and few others on PS4 this year and I'm about spent out. Hopefully Nintendo doesn't announce too much more for 2017. They can lay some Metroid and F-Zero on my 2018, though, without a doubt... and sneak in Smash this fall.

Capcom has to bring that Monster Hunter soon - the sooner the better. Beyond Good and Evil 2 from Ubisoft will be much appreciated.
