They don't really need to advertise much for initial sales due to the Nintendo fanbase who will buy the console and games whatever. When they need to create a wider audience for Switch they will need to advertise.

The start of the online subscription service is probably the same time as a big Switch price cut which willl be far enough from the launch that no compensation is required for early adopters. This will also be the start of a major marketing campaign in the run up to Christmas.

Around the Network

Switch marketing has been bad so far. So nothing has changed my opinion yet.

To be frank, I think the real advertising push will come post launch. I'm willing to bet that the summer will mark a huge marketing ploy for the Switch for the holidays. A lot of the people getting it on day one already made up their minds and it would be silly of Nintendo to waste marketing funds on it. I think after online features are outlined (I believe this will be at E3) with more games. Then will be the time to push a huge advertising campaign to get this concept into the minds of the masses.

I get the feeling that the marketing strategy for the Switch after E3 is going to be a totally different ball game. So lets just warm the bench for now.

Well... they still have time. Not that i ever said something of the sort.

What they have done is PR.

Advertisement does not come until much closer to release. It does confuse me how people think that companies pay rivers of money to advertise a product that people can't buy yet. Advertisement ALWAYS comes when the product is about to launch or has launched. It's a waste of money otherwise.

All you got for now is PR communication with interviews and events to spurt your interest and pre-orders. You are not the target of advertisment if you have already pre-ordered.
