The gap is narrowing, sure, but both systems are down a good bit overall from 2015. Assuming those 1M and 1.1M figures for November are as accurate as we're gonna get, the PS4 is down 12.3% YoY while the XBO is down 4.2%. Both systems were hurt by a relatively anemic November, which was responsible for most of their YoY losses.

The slim models (and the PS4 Pro) have had a smaller effect on sales than their counterparts from last generation did. I think this has a lot to do with just the overall sales pacing we've seen this generation, which is a lot faster than what we saw last generation. I think both the PS4 and XBO simply have less room to grow at this point in their lives than the PS3 and 360 did.

This isn't to take away from what the XBO has been able to accomplish since the "S" model was released. It has helped a fair amount, and has done more for the XBO than new models have done for the PS4. But the facts are what they are. The PS4 and XBO are at or getting close to their peaks, with the XBO having maybe a little more room for growth than the PS4. The XBO may have narrowed the gap, but it was still down 3 out of 4 quarters this year. Neither MS nor Sony really has any room to brag in regards to their performance in the U.S. market right now.

Since this is likely the best we're going to get data-wise, I'm going to go finish up my charts, post the basic ones in the NPD thread, and maybe make another thread going more in-depth on the state of the U.S. hardware market.

I think they both still have at least one year of growth in them. 2016 was nowhere near as good a software year as 2017 stands to be. Speaking for the PS4. this year we have destiny 2, GTs, RDR2, Horizon, ME:A, SW:BF, COD and a possible GoW and what is most likely to be a $200 price point. The PS4 stands to have its best year so far.

Agreed.  I think this year will either be the biggest or at least be on par with last year.  A $199 Slim should definitely boost sales quite a bit.  The only time it hasn't was last gen, but that was mainly because it took so long for the PS3 to hit $199, about 6 years, and the gen was coming to a close.  This time they will have it done 4 years in, with most likely 2 years left before the PS5.  We also have so much damn good SW launching this year.  Something for everyone.  It's going to be a good year.

A $299 Pro wouldn't hurt any, either.  If they hit that price, not only will it sway people away from the Scorpio, which I expect to be $449, but it puts the Pro price at a place where average consumers will really consider the extra $100 could be worth it for a 4K gaming system.

Would be nice to see a thread like that if you decide to make one.

IT was on amazon for a while. Uncharted bundle was 229 for a week or longer. Also sonys temporary cut to 249 lasted the whole month I know Microsofts only lasted till Christmas.

You mean that price cut? That was from the 11th to the 24th?

Was extented to the 31st

So that part in their ad that says the 11th to 24th was not adhered to on the front or the back end?  Genuinely curious, as I wasn't shopping and didn't see any of these prices you people speak of this year.

Actually if I recall, someone free to correct me as my memory can fail. Sonys was from the 11-24. Then they extended it. Microsoft was from 11 or 12th-24th.  Also didn't Sony have a ff15 bundle in December.

PS4 was from Dec 11- Dec 31st

XBO was from Dec 13- 24th

The FFXV bundle was very limited.

Dat 4K Blu-ray buying power... 😏

How limited. Less than 50k? And that sounds about right. Was the 229 PS4 only on amazon? And do you know how long that lasted?

Halo MCC will sell 5+ million copies(including digital)

halo 5 will sell 10 million copies(including digital)

x1 will pass ps4 in USA, and UK.

Im not sure how limited but i didnt know about it til someone mentioned it on the forums and im active on Amazon threads so id say it was really limited. PS4 was $229 at Best Buy also and at Gamestop it was $250 with a $25 gift card. I dont know how long they lasted but i think the Best Buy one was 2-3 days.

worldwide, they're still getting bludgeoned, and monthly outside of holidays, they slip behind again.

Impressive for Xbox, wonder what the 3DS numbers would be with those shortages

XB1: 1.511K
Ps4: 1.568K

238k of the PS4 number is PS4 Pro units.

It's neck and neck, this is what I was saying in the NPD thread and was getting heat for saying.

Like them or not, MS has made the race dramatically more competetive and is holding extremely tough against a Playstation 4 with multiple new models.

"More competitive" in the US, where they won by a very large margin last gen... And they now fight dramatically to just reduce the monthly lead of the PS4, but keep losing there, while being stomped easily in the rest of the world.

Hum... Hurray?

Not hurray but what do they want them to do? Give up? Leave the console business?

So Sony would basically be down YoY without the Pro. It didn't add much but it was enough to have a YoY growth.
