Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Switch Graphics! Don’t give up on them just yet.

I updated the op with a link to justiceiro's thread comparing the Switch version of Steep to current gen consoles. Is a very interesting and eye opening watch. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=224733&page=1

“Simple minds have always confused great honesty with great rudeness.” - Sherlock Holmes, Elementary (2013).

"Did you guys expected some actual rational fact-based reasoning? ...you should already know I'm all about BS and fraudulence." - FunFan, VGchartz (2016)

Graphics graphics graphics.... is it all that gamers today want?
Some gamers should just stop gaming and watch movies, if all they want are graphics...

That said, I care a lot more about art style than resolution. The quality of what I´ve seen in this generation - Switch included - regarding resolution, detail etc. is more than enough for me to have fun. And, to be frank, high-detailed, realistic graphics don´t impress me no more.

Art Style, gameplay and a good soundtrack is what really matters to me. If Switch games can deliver that, then I´ll be fine with that.

XBC2's main character's face looks like garbage to me.

Lets see how that plays into the story.

Hype level 8.
Shut up Nintendo, that game will not come out in 2017.

I hope that when they get a 10nm version of the Tegra X1, which should bring down power consumption hugely they add two new models to the Switch family

Although both the Wii and the Wii U had no die shrinks, isn't that so? I don't think Nintendo consoles ever did die shrinks, to be fair, except probably for the new SNES model. One would expect the New 3DS to be so as well, but it had a larger battery and a shorter life, so yeah, I don't think there was one here, even accounting for the extra juice of the new version.

I think your right. Even the wii mini has the standard wii chipset they just disabled lots of features in the firmware and didn't fit the additional hardware requried like the wifi chip etc.

I think the Wii technically did when we got the Wii mini.

Do we count the NES mini (emulation)?

All the characters seemed to get hit by the generic fairy. Sad really.

Is that fairy a playable character (party character), or do they just play a major role?

Monolith Soft will meet my expectations.
Blind faith is key.

Could it be that they actually want their games to feel unique and interesting and not realistic and boring? Shocking

Xenoblade WAS the thing that felt unique on the Nintendo console. It's more like you go to Mc Donald's because you love their burgers, but they also had the Mac Rib sandwich which comes out every now and again and is like the best thing on the planet. Then you go one time and they said they have a new take on the Mc Rib and it turns out it's just a hamburger with barbaque sauce on it. (Keep in mind, just an example. I hate Mc Donald's and the Mc Rib)

Your statement would also imply that Xenoblade and X were not interesting or unique and that they were boring. Well I'll just say that statement isn't true in the slightest. You should play them sometime.

I own them both and the are both anime. The character models in X speak for themselves.

But only ones the boring generic cel shaded lazy looking anime design.

Edit: and your right XenoX art direction does speak for itself. You know, the game that is considered the best looking on the system next to LoZ BOTW, and BOTW seems to have poor performance on the machine. Says a great deal actually as the same can't be said for Xenoblade 2.

It's just the eye shapes that's different from the original, though. The eyes and the cel-shading. That's not a cost cutting measure.

It does let people cut corners through the need of fewer animations, less time designing, no texturing, because all that looks normal in that style. I mean look at some character pictures of Xenoblade X and look at Xenoblade 2. One took a lot less time to create, and time is money. But if you feel making a Cel shaded character is just as easy and costly as making a more realistic styled character that's fine. It's only my guess after all.

You're comparing XB2 to XB1 as an example of this, though. What about anything you saw in the trailer suggests that XC2 required fewer animations, less time designing, or less texturing than XC1. The original game wasn't this complex or detailed game. It that game was cel-shaded, it would look nearly identical. It's just the eyes.

It probably took less time because it's using the same engine. XCX had to build that engine from scratch. That has nothing to do with the art style, as thre only thing more "realistic" about XCX was that game's color pallet, and the Skells.

But with that said, it is an undeniable step back for the series.
