Yep, and those games (Splatoon, MK, Arms now...) will come before the online service is released. So, I have my reservations about how well it would work. So, I'm not sure if it'll work.

yeah thats a good point, i forgot about that. i doubt the paid online will have a huge effect on its sales at launch if its playable online for free. but it might hurt the community a huge deal once the online sub is introduced. and by the time the sub is introduced a lot of players might just not be willing to pay to play a game they been playing for months already.

Probably, it depends on the subscription. If it's 5€ a month, I doubt many people will jump in XD.

Good point but it also makes avoiding the paid online on the Switch easier. Tit-for-tat.

thats my point. people might pass up on splatoon 2 because they arent willing to get an online sub just for it and maybe another game or so. and that might hurt its sales. we will have to see. but as the user above pointed out Nintendo's paid service wont release until later after Splatoon 2 releases. so it might not hurt its sales after all, but i can see it heavily hurting its community in the long run. its going to sting when all of a sudden you have to pay to play a game online, when you were playing it online for free. i think that will hurt splatoons community big time.

I see. Definitely something Nintendo needs to think through carefully as things progress.

I think they might lock some modes behind the paywall as the modes are introduced and have a free mode otherwise. Dunno. We shall see.

If Pokemon is Nintendo's Madden/FIFA, maybe Splatoon is supposed to be their CoD?

We'll know for sure if the next game is named Splatoon: Black Ink.

Lol, well done my man :D

@thread: are you guys winding me up? Does Uncharted 4 look or play massively different from Uncharted 1-3? Mario Galaxy 2 and Mario Galaxy? Forza Horizon 3 and 2?

That's what a sequel traditionally is -- it's a variation on a theme. You take a set of mechanics and gameplay fundamentals, and add new characters, items, modes, etc. It's evolution, not revolution.

Im hyped for it, the rolling and new story mode has me excited.

If I have friends that are interested that makes it a possible purchase for me, I have zero interest in online pay.

Why do people constantly think Nintendo has unveiled everything there is to know already about games like Splatoon 2 and Arms? I've seen people think Arms will only have 5 characters. Like seriously, wtf is wrong with some people. Do you guys want the entire game spoiled before launch?

Out of the Switch "big guns", it has the least amount of views on youtube by a big margin, but I wouldn't say it has no hype. Just less that it's comtemporaries.

In another hand, Splatoon 2 views on Nintendo japan has the most views, having passed 1 million views. This will be, no surprise, a bigger hit in Japan.

I had thought about checking out the Japanese videos, but never got around to it. And yeah, it will be bigger in Japan.

I preordered the first one after the first test fire. I regret nothing. But this game looks like it could easily be a expansion of the first one. Its going to be tough to justify the $300 plus the $60 for the game plus the $ for the online fee when the game looks like the first one.

I have PS4, and I hate paying for online... I'm sorry to say, switch adopting that practice has put a big hit in my interests Can you imaging someone who owns an Xbox One, PS4, and Switch? 160 dollars to play online? It's too much.

Also, the graphics should be better. Last we need is something that looks more-or less, the same. It was only ok back in the days of 2D graphics. Because 3D models and shading can be improved so much easier and cheaper, there's no reason for the game to look the same. I thought it was a port when I first saw it. I never played splatoon before. I couldn't get over the look of the game. Bunch of kids, making a big mess. But, from the outside looking in, I did get confused.

Not only that, it's not going to do a good job showing people why this couldn't just be a Wii U game, or, rather, why are we getting this console if it can't out-do the Wii U? You know there will be people who feel that way.

The online subscription will definitely hurt Splatoon 2.
