Forums - Nintendo - I hate to say this...If the Switch isn't powerful as Xbox One, I'm not buying. Let me explain

For someone like me who grew up with NES and SNES/Genesis... it's hard to swallow. The Nintendo of MY youth was the Yamauchi Nintendo. Back then, they went head with their competition and did not back down. This continued all the way through to the Gamecube which was much more powerful than PS2 and slightly less than Xbox (but not by much). Then, the Iwata era begins and so too does the idea of selling yesterdays consoles with today's gimmick controls.

This isn't the Nintendo people of my generation is ever going to cuddle in bed with. We just can't get use to it.

Well I am of your generation and I dont mind lesser power. Its the lack of games and information thats really getting to me.

The power is just part of it. Back then, they made sure to grab third parties or tried to. They aggressively marketed their stuff on TV. They were at E3... it was all basically like... bring it bitches! Yamauchi's Nintendo was much more aggressive.

True. I really want a Nintendo system to be my main console again, but I guess those days are over

Honestly, the only problem the Switch has is it's being marketed as a console you can take with you on the go, when they should probably be marketing it as a handheld you can use as a console. I feel like people would be a lot less critical of it's specs if they were comparing it to past handhelds and tablets rather than gaming PCs (which the current consoles basically are).

Regardless, it's probably going to be adopted like crazy in Japan. Japanese gamers have gone almost completely mobile, and once Dragon Quest, Monster Hunter, and Pokemon are on the thing, it's likely going to explode with Japanese developed games. I bet we'll be seeing 3DS and PSP/Vita devs moving over to the Switch like crazy.

I don't understand why people are still concerning themselves over 3rd parties. I thought the majority of us accepted the reality that those big budget 3rd party multiplats weren't coming to the Switch after it was revealed last year as a hybrid console. I know I was one of those people; I bitched about it for a day, held out hope for xbone power for a bit and then finally accepted reality. When I thought about it, I realized that I'm perfectly fine with a Nintendo console that gives me the 3rd party support of their handhelds along with the combined 1st party software library of their handhelds and consoles. And if 3rd parties happen to come on board and try to find a way to put their big budget games on the Switch, I'll happily buy that version of their games over any other version for the added portability.

Yeah I agree, I think even in the presentation I had the feeling of this being more of a 3ds successor of games than some system that will get all of the current generation ports from PS4 and XbOne. Which is fine with me because easily hands down the 3ds was one of my favorite systems in a long time, simply because of the types of games it received...

Well the third parties dont seem to do much with big or small games on the Switch. Most of the third parties talking in the presentation hadnt even started making their game yet. One guy even just said they are thinking about releasing games on the Switch... I mean what the hell is that about?

Why not just wait 4-5 years to buy one? At that point, it'll have all the content you want, and you can just sell it afterwards. That's what I'm planning on doing with the PS4.

What are we going to do in the meantime?

Switch is probably around 20% the power of Xbox One. It really boils down to what devs are willing to do to make their games work on a system that is so weak. I'm sure that some will take a shot at it at first, but in the end, they are making their games on around Wii U level hardware but with a better architecture.

wii u couldn't even keep getting ps3 ports after the first year, it's not because of the power. It couldn't even get japanese ports. Look at what happened when they released yakuza on wii u, it was a disaster. 3rd party games just didn't sell that's why they didn't get them.
