Forums - Nintendo - Switch Size Comparison (Vs. Wii U Controller)

Even if you remove the Joycons this thing is not going to be pocketable unless you want to look ridiculous or are planning to giant baggy jeans with huge cargo storage.

It looks slightly wider than the Wii U tablet with Joycons attached, though thankfully much thinner.

its very thin, which is nice

no offense but who on Earth in general even pockets their 3DS? I mean technically size wise you could, but you'd have to have big pockets and I never see people doing it. even with the clamshell closing 3DS if you pocket it regularly its going to get gross and scraped up pretty quickly

Just personally pretty much all handhelds I've had in the past I've usually carried in a carrying case in like a bookbag or just in my hands. I mean most of the places you'd imagine people were going that they'd want this device with them to use, you'd have to think they'd probably have their purse or bookbag anyway. On the bus, school, work, whatever.

I don't think the size is a problem considering the Joycons can be removed AND who's going to complain about a bigger screen. Personally the 3DS's two smaller screens wasn't a thing I was a huge fan of.

well a laptop and a tablet are portable and you can't put those insider your pocket, that's why we have purses, sling bags, briefcases, cars, backpacks. People are trying to nitpick everything.

Its a good size imo.

I occassionally put my 3DS in my pocket when I'm on a flight and need to get up or whatever, but yeah.

Some people on this board though I know were hellbent on the idea of a pocket portable and said they were going to do the whole "take off the Joycons and shove it all in my jean pockets" .... I'm just looking at these photos and thinking that ain't happening. Not unless you want to look like an idiot with a giant brick hanging out of your pocket.

Sure.  But, portable isn't black or white.  Some things are more portable than others.  The Switch is less portable than a 3DS or Vita.  It is probably less portable than any handheld ever made, with the possible exception of Game Gear or Lynx.  But, it is definitely more portable than all home consoles ever made.

In comparison to current tech products, I'd say its portability is moderate.  About that of a medium size tablet.

Very portable. Needs it's own briefcase. Because normal people carry their laptop ot tablet for work... plus another gamepad for gaming. Because it makes total sense. xD

Actually it's portable enough compared to my tablet , and i dont mind bring it outside. Now the problem is the batteries LOL.

I've had a Game Boy, Game Gear, GBA, DS, PSP, 3DS, and Vita, and not once placed any of them in my pocket. This is a non-issue.

Yeah we kinda knew this months ago. This plus poor battery life and high cost really hinder it's viability as a handheld. I can certainly see why Nintendo would try to market it as a home console first and foremost, but really that's still counterproductive. Their success is in handhelds so they need to market it as such. Be it seen as a home console or handheld, it's gimped either way anyway.
