Is Switch's Launch Day Lineup Worst Ever?

PS4 has a poor launch lineup outside of Resogun.
PS2 had a poor launch lineup. Fantavision anyone?
DS had a piss poor launch. Best game was a port of a N64 game.
PS1 has a dismal launch lineup.
3DS launch lineup was pretty horrible.

I think these systems did ok. You know Wii U and Dreamcast and Vita had pretty darn good launch lineups. Didn't help them much. Switch is far from the worst. Worst might be PS1.

The Switch will probably focus on Nintendo's IPs, so having a Zelda at launch actually beats WiiU launch. Also, Zelda, MK, Splatoon sequel, Xenoblade and Mario is a pretty good year for Nintendo's exclusives imho. Quantity-wise it might be a weak launch. Quality-wise will depend on Zelda.

I agree that this year will definitely be superior to the Wii U's first year and I'm quite excited for it, I was just asking about the Launch Day titles and considering that most are available on other platforms.

It depends on the person. For example, I waited for MK8 launch to get a WiiU. Nevertheless, I'm buying this just because of Zelda. It could be the only game that month, I'd buy it too. And, tbh, it's the only killer app and the only one that matters sales-wise. I don't think there's an objective way to measure that. The only fact is that games quantity is probably awful compared to other launches. But I find Switch launch more appealing than any console since the Wii for just one game.

Didn't the N64 launch with just two games? I see two games on launch day that I want so I'd say Switch is at least on par with N64.

yeah, cause mario bros wii u and nintendoland are way better than zelda, mario, splatoon 2, xenoblade 2, mario kart deluxe and all the other stuff.

Mario, splatoon, xenoblade, mario kart and the rest of the stuff isn't available on launch day, that's what OP refers to in the title itself. From this picture, nintendo has 5 games on day 1, that's pretty jarring. Sure, Zelda will undoubtedly take up everybody's time for a solid month but still, they seem rather unprepared

Correct. Mario and Pilotwings.

I should start by saying I'm actually still excited as hell for this console... The thing is, Nintendo essentially just confirmed the launch lineup with this image:

Soooo when you remove ports there are two new launch titles, they being Bomberman R and a glorified tech demo akin to Wii Sports in 1-2 Switch.

Now, I've heard people say that the N64 had one of the weaker launch lineups ever, but I remember getting Mario 64, Wave Racer 64, and Shadows of the Empire and they were all life-consuming and absolutely awesome haha

I have to say, though, that while I think this lineup trumps the Wii U's due to the awesomeness that is Zelda BotW, if one only counts console exclusives I do believe this is the worst launch day lineup I've ever come across.

Can anyone think of a worse one? Seriously, wtf has Nintendo been up to all this time?

From that picture I can't wait to play Red Frame.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

It has zelda so it can't be the worst, but it certainly is weak.

By virtue of having Zelda, no.

Let us all remember that PS3 had a pretty bad set of launch titles.

As I said before, they need the console out this fiscal year, zelda is a system seller and from march to holidays the console will get a good amount of content. You don't need 5 must have titles at launch, yeah would be way better than just zelda as a system seller from day one, but when your main console is dead and your new platform is ready to go with your most important game that's a good business decision.

It's not like zelda will be the only game in march, will be the only system seller, but then in april you have mario kart 8 deluxe and other games, in  May we will see. June you have E3 to create hype with new games and more content that month with games like splatoon 2 and who knows what else.

launch day is important, and they are set with zelda.

I thought I remembered Wave Racer 64 and Shadows of the Empire as well?

Either way, I was mostly refering to console exclusives, so I'd certainly give those two the edge over Bomberman and 1-2 Switch.

Most consoles have weak launch lineups though (including many I've loved), this one just took me by surprise as really the only game of note was one that's been delayed for, what, three years? I thought we'd at least get one big surprise right off the bat.

Nintendo must really have been pulling our leg with the Zelda release dates as they must have known this whole time it'd be the feature launch title of the Switch. Just imagine what the first month or two would look like without it... it wouldn't be pretty.
