I'd rate it a 7/10. Dissapointed about the price and lack of concrete launch dates for a, otherwise, great games lineup imo. Pretty much what I expected.

| UltimateUnknown said: There are barely any launch games for the console. They are literally banking on Zelda to sell the console out of the gate and that's on the Wii U too. Other than that all I saw were a bunch of motion control casual games at launch. I'm surprised Nintendo are still trying to push this entire motion control gimmick in an attempt to get the casuals and I fear they're gonna find out the hard way that the motion control Wii audience is long gone. Honestly I was expecting a lot more for launch. Mario looked amazing but they needed to announce a bunch of other stuff for this year. |
This.
4/10 Zelda looks amazing but it will cost me CAD 542 to play on Switch in March.
I'm thinking the WiiU version can't be that far behind with the rumored specs and Switch can wait.

My rating: 6/10
My pros: -XENOBLADE 2 FUCK YES!!! -Splatoon 2 -The new Mario looks very fresh and nothing like 3D World. -Pretty good list of RPGs. -Badass Zelda trailer. LAUNCH!
My cons: -Very boring show for the first 20 minutes. -Meh battery. -Pretty meh launch games. (Zelda being the OBVIOUS exception.) -$300 (everyone was saying $250, not a bad price, but probably won't get it at launch) -Mario isn't until Holiday. |
I agree with you mostly (especially with the lack of launch titles). However I will point out that as far as I could tell (besides the motion gimmick couples of games), the only officially announced launch game at the event was Zelda. So 'games' at the moment is not accurate, as Zelda was the only confirmed March 3rd thing.
also the price I don't necessarily think is that bad IF (again, emphasize IF) it ends up meaning the Switch actually is fairly competitive graphically. I mean its a handheld, so I don't expect XOne/PS4 matching, but if its quite good handheld level specs
also the battery is speculative. They safely said depending on game the battery can last 2-1/2 hours to 6 hours. So it could possibly be like a 4 hour average, which isn't bad at all IMO.
100% agree Mario was concerning though. They could have had a blockbuster reception if they had simply had an announcement of 'The Switch will release with both Zelda AND Mario" or "Zelda AND a few beloved other returning franchies (F Zero? Animal Crossing?).
I don't understand what they have been doing the last year or two when not working on the Wii U, you would think they would have loads of Switch software projects in developement for release at launch or in 2017. I mean they abandoned the Wii U and Nintendo is a big company. Its just bizarre
| Super_Boom said: For me, a solid 8. Games blew me away, and that's my primary motivation to purchase. Paid online was a dissapointment, but I'm mostly interested in the single player experiences currently anyway. Battery life is lame...but only a bit worse than my 3DS...so whatever. Super hyped for SMT, FE Warriors, Xenoblade 2 and Zelda. |
2.5hours for a normal game, and upto 6 hours if its some small 2D spirt based indie game.
SMT is just barely started production... so thats 2-3years away.
FE warriors, xenoblade 2 arnt first year titles either.
Zelda you can play on your Wii U.
This wasnt a 8 out of 10.
Probably a 7. There was enough there content wise for me.
The 3 points are mostly due to some gaps in announcements and most crucially the dang presentation itself. The translators in particular could be atrocious. It was just way too dry sometimes. And this is from a guy who saw it being dry from a mile away.
10/10 for me!
I'm on Cloud Fucking Nine!!
-March 3rd!
-$300, (sure it's not $250, but still affordable)
- Region Free
- XENOBLADE CHRONICLES 2!!!!!!!!!! FUCK YES!!!!! (Though what does that make X?)
- Fire Emblem Warriors!!!
- Splatoon 2!
- Super Mario Odyseey
- BREATH OF THE WILD IS A LAUNCH TITLE!!!!!!!!!!! THERE IS A GOD IN THIS WORLD!!!!
Day.
Fucking.
One.

One thing that this presentation did was really make me wonder...Why did the Wii U have such big droughts for this? It doesn't seem like there's the influx of games that would have been expected.
| Kerotan said: 4/10 very dissapointed. Nintendo had very limited output of high quality console games for the last couple of years of the Wii U. I thought they'd have a tidal wave of titles ready for launch. Too high a price with paid online and expensive accessories. Not impressed. |
agree with this 100%. They Wii U had like nothing come out the last year or two, so most of us assumed that there were tons of Switch projects being worked on. The possibility that they will only launch with Zelda (essentially) is just insane.
and also the potential that they have still ignored tentpole franchises (in reality they are for Nintendo fans) like a new remodeled Animal Crossing, a new style Pikmin, F-Zero, some sort of home console Pokemon game, Metroid, etc.
I mean for god's sake, how hard could it be for Nintendo to make a new Pokemon Snap 2 or something? a game were you simply take photos of Pokemon in a challenging way with like current gen graphics (like imagine going through a vacation Hawaii area that looked HD as fuck, and you randomly see a Gyrados in the water and have to photograph it) would sell like hotcakes and be a big system seller
I don't know who is in charge of software development for Nintendo but this is insane. Sorry folks, Zelda+ Mario and something like a Splatoon sequel were a GIVEN. like absolutely already a given
where are the surprise returned franchises? where are the new IPs? have Nintendo's development teams fallen asleep. Seriously, Nintendo has a bunch of random high quality software teams- what have they been doing? worked on E shop titles?
frustrated. I hope to god Nintendo announces some more stuff overthe next few days at their live play events or whatever, because while the presentation was fun the software is just so underwhelming.
I never thought for a second that the official Switch Presentation would should basically NO new games outside of the announcement trailer (which had Zelda, Skyrim, Ea sports games, etc.)
I mean for gods sake the only exciting thing was maybe the Fire Emblem Dynasty Warriors tease and we just saw the sword getting pulled and fade to black? I am baffled
I liked Kimishima's portions, but it reminded me of the Apple conference where too many people came out to talk about stuff details people weren't interested in hearing. But I am upset the conference was all in Japanese, it should have been much more visual with more pre-recorded videos, and less talking and explaining stuff that is easy to just show in a much shorter time frame. All of the interesting portions seemed to be spread out between boring stuff, and brushed over too quickly.
Also, it would have been a lot better to show all the games that will be ready for launch. The presentation made it look like only Zelda was going to be available for the console at launch, and otherwise a complete drought. That is not the how Nintendo should have put their first foot forward with the Switch presence to the media.
Overall, this was a 25 minute presentation extended to 70 minutes due to all the explanation stuff, when they could have made it a much more solid 40 minute presentation, but extending the interesting stuff, and cutting all the boring stuff.
I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.
