The XB1 doesn't necessarily have to win. It just needs to, at worst, have a small YOY decrease for 2017.

Well played from both sides this year. The actual winner this year is Xbox for me

. Xbox one s was played perfectly. I would say this was the best slim revision for a console ever. Winning september and october despite the launch of ps4 slim and PSVR is a great feat. The bundle were smartly played, with minecraft for the kids, and Battlefield for the people older than that. Forza horizon 3 and Gears 4 were well recieved, and at least forza was a sales surprise. The backwards compatibilty has grown huge this year and is actually a huge plus for Xbox. Despite not winning december, Xbox was up YOY and ps4 was down, which is a bigger accomplishment than people think. Ps4 had $250 og model, slim uncharted bundle, Ps4 pro and psvr and they were still down YOY
Those 6 months were a hot streak for MS.
This year hasn't started well for them though, hopefully they can recoup

Sounds like they are down year over year though, whereas MS is up year over year for December. That means they closed the gap.

I'm speaking about the gap they had between them last December, MS is trending up, Sony is trending down. The context I was talking about is rather clear there by the preceeding sentence. I never once said MS had closed the gap in overall LTD sales, but the fact that they are far more competetive.

"Gap" is apparently a loaded term. Go figure. To me personally MS' sales are more impressive because they just have one vanilla model, and the One S boost should have faded a bit since it's been available for months whereas PS4 Slim is the new thing for the holiday on top of the really new PS4 Pro. 

So not by a whole lot... This reeks of FF driving their sales higher. It will definitely stay like that for January. Not anything to say besides this.

It is much more than that one line.  It is your refusal to look at anything aside from the XB1S success as a reason why PS would be down.  It is your refusal to look at the previous year as part of the reason why something might be down or up.  It is your hard-nosed stance that me saying things like this is discounting the XB1S's success as opposed to what it actually is: entering further evidence and reason into the discussion.

When it comes to console wars? Yup, it's a bit loaded no doubt.

I feel XBox One S is indeed the no.1 reason the PS4 is down YoY, MS is far, far more competetive this year. In fact I'll go further and say it's borderline shocking the XBox One is even competetive this holiday, this should have been a *rout* for Sony, we had heard for months that XBox was going to get destroyed in November/December because of the Pro + Slim one-two punch. 

If you don't agree with MS having any impact on Sony sales, fine, but you don't ge to tell people that they can only think one way especially when you are not presenting any hard evidence either. As such we are free to have opinions on why MS is up this December and Sony is down. I'm not "refusing" anything, I just don't agree with your point.

Microsoft Fans PS won but not that much so Xbox is winner "their logic"

Sony fans:PS won get over it they have been winning for almost the entire year.

MS fans: Xbox won for 4 months with the S and they got closer to PS in USA even though the difference is 50-120k Consoles being sold.

Sony Fans: PS negated that on Black Friday etc etc.

In reallity what happened for the Entire year.
