Sony: PS4 Is the World’s Best Selling Console From 2014 Through 2016
In their latest trailer announcing the upcoming Glacier White PlayStation 4 Slim, PlayStation Europe revealed that PS4 is the world’s best selling console from 2014 through 2016, finishing at #1 in each of those years.
The fine print adds, “Based on sales of all consoles from [January 1, 2014] to [December 31, 2016].” In Sony’s previous ads touting PS4 as “the world’s best selling console,” they didn’t say what time period was being measured.
Since launch in November 2013, more than 53.4 million PS4 consoles have been sold, with 6.2 million of those happening between November 20, 2016 and January 1, 2017. Sony expects PS4 shipments to reach 60 million by the end of the fiscal year (March 31,2017).
Back in December, an analyst suggested that lifetime Xbox One sales would fail to reach 30 million by the end of 2016, meaning PS4 could now be over 23 million units ahead. The Wii U, meanwhile, is no longer in production and finished with lifetime shipments of about 13.6 million.
