Forums - Microsoft - Confirmed: Scalebound Cancelled

If Sony are smart they're scrambling for their phones. It even if the game is mediocre it would be a huge blow to announce it as a PS4 exclusive at E3 2017.

But it's a shame for people who were looking forward to playing it on the Xbox One.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Game looked like a mess anyway, slow and dull.

2.5 billions for minecraft.

Nothing for a bunch of homegrown new IPs.

I was actually thinking the same thing, how can MS blow 2.5 billion for a single game but they can't seem to fund and open up new Studios? Or at the very least buy some 3rd party studios. It shows me MS has it's priorities backwards when it comes to games.

Since MS owns the IP they sure as hell need to bring it back

Not sure about that. Eurogamer says "It's unclear whether Scalebound could still be revived by Platinum". This sentence makes me think that Platinum owns the IP and will decide the future of the game...

MS owns the IP. What a waste imo this is BS.

If this is really true ... wow ... incredible !!! That sucks @ Microsoft.
I see one thing and speak my thoughts.: Xbox One: Features Features and all games on PC. PS4: Games Games and many Exclusives. This feeling conveys Microsoft. Exactly that is the reason why an Xbox for me no longer comes into question. So...my tip: Xbox Onlys, buy a PS4 and have fun with all the japanese games and blockbuster! It's time to put a sign - for the gamers!

Not a huge fan of JP games when i get a PS4 it will be mostly for western games.

Omg my most hyped MS game canned. Ate you fucking kidding me MS. They need to have a better lineup this E3. Also PG fuck of they couldnt even reach deadlines there so incompetent. Terrible news bad for MS and PG. Im pissed.

I wouldn't be so harsh on platinum games.  Their ps4 console exclusive Nier is looking amazing and is due to release soon.  They've proven they can make games properly.

I doubt Neir is as big as Scalebound. They can make smaller games like ninja turtles, neir beyo but games like Scalebound seems to much for them.

Confirmed by Microsoft to Windowscentral: http://www.windowscentral.com/xbox-exclusive-scalebound-has-been-canceled

After careful deliberation, Microsoft Studios has come to the decision to end production for "Scalebound." We're working hard to deliver an amazing lineup of games to our fans this year, including "Halo Wars 2," "Crackdown 3," "State of Decay 2," "Sea of Thieves" and other great experiences. Monolith would be the perfect developers for Nintendo to pair with Platinum Games in order to get this project on track. I think that's where they went wrong, is Platinum were making something so large outside of their comfort zone with no back up experience to turn to when things went off track. Microsoft seems like a company that's so hands off when they throw money at something and check on it later it's either amazing or a pile of mess and in shambles.

Platinum is more than qualified to develop this game. We don't know the specifics but if Platinum can make Bayonetta 2 as beautiful as they did on the Wii U, they can certainly do so for Scalebound on the X1. I don't think it's a matter of qualifications for this issue.

I definitely understand what you're saying and I give Platinum Games props in the action genre, but even the gameplay that we've seen of Scalebound looked like it wasn't sure of what type of game it was. Everyone needs help and direction every now and then, not sure if you've read the Iwata asks between Platinum Games and Nintendo. It's a good read because I think it just shows how different Japanese developers work with each other versus western development with Japanese...

I think Microsoft is a more hands off company but here's lots of cash, where as Nintendo is a hands on type of company that likes to catch problems before they get too out of control. Either way I hope Platinum recovers from this soon. I know it's been stated before by Platinum Games management that they wouldn't mind being a 2nd party developer for Nintendo. Who knows maybe that might be closer to a reality after something like this happens.

Its official.

I was super excited for Scalebound.

Come on Nintendo, step in!! Lets have another Bayonetta 2 moment

Shinobi saying Crackdown 3's development also isn't going too hot either, although not as bad as Scalebound's http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=227956027&postcount=1952

That reminds me of all the talk about the cloud improving Xbox One games, with Crackdown 3 being the poster boy

Whatever happened to all that?

That could very well be the reason why we haven't heard anything about Crackdown 3. My guess is that they have to make things work on a wide range of internet speeds. Could end up leading to developmental issues.
