i would miss the second screen. it didnt do the Wii U much justice but it was perfect for a handheld experience. there would be downsides as well. handheld games wouldnt have a touch screen anymore- something that EVERY mobile device these days does.
jeez, the more i think about the Switch the more i think its a bad idea.
for now they should support the Switch as a home console and the 3DS as a mobile console

Better?? Its a stupid NS proprietary port

its a hybrid, you people are foolish if you want two different systems, heres why. The wiiu just failed recently and nintendo brought all their attention to creating games or porting games for the 3ds that shouldve been on the wiiu, for instance poochy & yoshi's woolly world, mario superstar sports. Many people have lost nintendo's trust because those who bought a wiiu got barely any support for 2015 & 2016... while 3ds is still getting games. The Nintendo Switch is amazing because it will have every single Nintendo game and it is hybrid.
Nope, don't buy it. No one at this point should be expecting Switch to be PS4 level or Nintendo to support two HD systems at once, which is exactly why he made this thread I bet.
If Switch sells 50m and Nintendo dont release a dedicated handheld (Switch is a hybrid), is that classed as successful?? Wii U and 3DS combined will reach 80million and its been classed as a poor gen for Nintendo. Im guessing Nintendo might have a 3DS type successor waiting in the wings in case Switch doesn't fly off the shelves. Its quite a dicey move from Nintendo when you think about it. Their console reputation cant get any lower, but if Switch is a disaster it could also harm its handheld reputation. I wonder how many Switches would have to be sold for Nintendo not to make another dedicated handheld.
I'm still a bit worried that some games can only be played in handheld mode if it has a touch screen. Then the biggest draw of the system for me will be gone.

The combination of handheld and home console is less to do with hardware sales and more to do with software sales. Software is where the money is made.
Too many games were left to fail on WiiU. If they had been on a console that sold more they might have performed better. Merging the 2 divisions not only means this would no longer happen (obviously depending on the success of Switch) but that having a larger library due to the combined library will lead to more consumer intrest in the console. Which of course leads to better software sales.
If the Switch fails though I would fully expect Nintendo have been working on a 3DS successor as a plan B.
Handhelds are dead now.
The Switch has a better sucess rate than another Handheld.
Pocky Lover Boy!

If Switch succeeds, we won't see another DS. The novelty of dual screens has worn off and at this point, more is less. One screen allows Nintendo and other 3rd parties to focus on what matters, and they can develop games and port games without having to worry about 2 screens and how it would "work".
