To further our ability to help you when you report a post, please help us by clearly stating the forum violation. Snarky remarks, metaphors, etc...just make it more difficult to address your issue. Please do not use the comment box as a place to vent or retort. It doesn't help.

The issue I have with that is - I/We are not the judges of what is a forum violation.

I typically report something because I think it may violate the a rule but I'm not sure. So if nothing happens I assume it wasn't violating one.

Plus what happens when something violates a rule - but not the rule you think?

More to the point, it's about directing us to the problem.  Why you reported it in the first place.   Often times we'll get a reported post that has comments that just don't make any sense themselves, have no context or are just rants.

The forum rules should give a pretty good guideline of what is and isn't worth reporting.

We're not saying that you have to be 100% sure something is a moderation before you could report it.  If that were the case, then you could just moderate the posts yourself, and we could cut out the middle man.  But, at the same time there should be some kind of rational basis.  If you're reporting a comment that's kind of borderline, that's fine.  If you're reporting a comment where there's no apparent reason, or simply as an excuse to complain that someone said something you don't like (even though it's not a violation) that's problematic.

Also, explaining why a post is a violation gives us context.  If there is a comment that is marked as "trolling" but it doesn't seem like trolling at first glance, we can look through the previous posts to figure out why it may be trolling in that context.  On the other hand, if you don't give us anything to go on, and we don't see anything that immediately seems like a violation, we're probably not going to go hunting for a reason with no idea what we're looking for.

If something is reported we'll generally look at the post, and if something jumps out at us that's not the stated reason for moderation, we'll still take action.  It's not like if you say something is flaming and it's actually trolling we're just going to ignore it.

I see. I was being too literal. You simply want direction or a "reason" for the reporting. You don't actually need the exact number etc.

I misunderstood - thanks.

  • Deadliest mass shooting by an individual in US history (10/01/2017)
  • Deadliest high school shooting in US history (02/14/2018)
  • Deadliest massacre of Jews in US history (10/27/2018)
  • Political assassination attempt of TWO former presidents(and 10+ other people)  (10/23/2018 - and beyond)

I would like to ask to stop namecalling certain forumusers in a negative way in threads like US Politics,i get that it can be frustrating to never have someone agreeing with your logic but speaking about them with other users in that very same thread is really unconstructive because you alienate them from the community and they will mostly grow even more defensive about their arguments.

No need to speak for him/her,what worries me the most is the recurring practice and not necessarily isolated cases.

This reminds me of something. Rather recently I reported an issue to you specifically via PM and you said that you'll bring it up in mod chat to see what the team thinks. The violation in question does not fall into a grey area, it's a clear violation. However, I neither saw something done about it nor was I given an update on what the team thought about the issue.

So I am asking for clarity here. Whether I get an answer in this thread or via PM isn't important, but I'd like some kind of answer at least.

I will PM you, as it may be hard to discuss without putting anyone on blast.

https://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread/242518/rumor-according-to-xbox-fan-microsoft-will-rebrand-xbox-series-x-to-sega-series-x-in-japan/1/

This poll has redundant/meaningless options. It can't decide if it wants to be a poll on whether someone prefers Xbox over Sega or a poll on what your first reaction to the rumor was. Finally "Some fans don't have loyalty at all" and "Actually i love Xbox because it has Sega games" are complete nonsense and don't belong at all (they're also the least popular choices).

Can something be done about this poll? It's useless as is.

I think sales2066 is banned for a good reason, but i feel like that is because we allow bait to fester is a cause

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

Hm... I don't see why he got banned in the first place.

Trolling (Yes, the conversation was steered in a direction of Xbox vs PlayStation only because of what you came in there with. You're going to keep receiving bans until you stay away from stuff like this. You continue to be a needless problem in threads, sales. Seriously, stop doing it!) ~ CGI-Quality [9160979]

The thread he posted in was a platform comparison thread to begin with, so that can't be an issue. Connected to this is the absence of a general thread warning to put a stop to Xbox vs. PS discussion, so if everyone else is free to do it, why not sales2099? Is he on a special type of guideline/ban that prohibits him from partaking in Xbox vs. PS discussions completely?

Regarding bait, I have to assume that it concerns sales2099's accusation of Sweeney being paid off by Sony, based on the fact that Sweeney and his team refused to advertise their company's UE5 engine for XSX to the same or similar degree as they did for the PS5. Marketing deals are nothing new in the longlasting battle between Sony and Microsoft, so suspecting one when something is fishy strikes me more as common sense than baiting. Talking up the SSD of the PS5 is one thing, but Epic still has their engine to sell, so they would want it to sound as good as possible for all the main platforms they are targeting; which are the PC, PS5 and XSX.

The ban note doesn't specify anything in particular, but is rather a reflection of the general illwill towards sales2099. Said illwill is first and foremost grounded in his refusal to, figuratively speaking, lay down and die like it's expected from the Xbox fanbase on this site.

Question for you, kirby: What exactly do you mean when you say "we allow bait to fester"?
