Forums - Nintendo - Hackers unlock NES Classic, upload new games via USB cable

Pointless. They should have invested in other places as there is emulator for NES. I see no point in it.

you can buy retropie that is modded to look like a nes mini already, this is kinda pointless. If you are into emulation then you aren't buying the nes mini.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

Not really. It's a plug and play emulator that you can carry around with you and easily plop into any TV. That's not something a normal emulator on mobile or PC can deliver.

It's also important to know that it is easily hackable like this at all and that Nintendo hasn't stepped up their DRM game.

But you have to do a lot more yourself there. The nes mini is a working box that is actually emulating. Like a pre built raspberry with bad hardware and only a new emulator. Which, if you want, can play more games.

Ultrabook (or a netbook if you're lucky and have one) + USB NES controller + HDMI cable = NES Classic. Portable, can be plopped onto to any TV, and has every NES game instead of just 30.

And if you have the laptop and HDMI cable just because they are common household items nowadays, you really only need the controller, which is like $10. You can enjoy the same experience with the same ease, and only have to pay $10 instead of $60 (or $200+ depending on where you go). NES Classic really is a pointless item. Unless all you really care about is the fancy plastic casing.

They're basically announcing to the world that they're too broke to buy the real games. (you can reply with the tired and played out, idealistic non-sense but it won't make it true.)

If Nintendo does release more games officially, I will buy them. A big appeal of the NES mini is that it has the NES controller.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Sweet! Gonna try that right now!

Actually like the idea of this. I like the idea of the NES classic but wasn't keen on most of the games. If I can always have my chosen NES classic games available then its more desirable. One of my favourite NES games is Elite though and that game can be hard to emulate because of the split screen mode.

Really though its a super nintendo classic and Nintendo 64 classic that I'm after those have a lot more games that I love and would like to have quick access to.

Still wouldn't pay full retail let alone prices above for NES classic but when they finally come down in price I may get one.

If the UI can hold up to 60 games, why doesn't the NES Classic have 60 games then or the ability to buy up to 60 games? If the plan was always to only have 30, why not have a UI that can only hold 30?
