Probably.
Sigs are dumb. And so are you!
It's gonna destroy the Pro in every way hardware wise. It's not an upgrade like the Pro, it's pretty much a next gen console.

I'm a self-confessed Sony boy but I am all up for some competition because it makes Sony have to step up. I'm really impressed with the fact that Microsoft improved the Xbox One S on many levels(size, internal power supply, etc, although the OG PS4 had these features on launch) and that they included an UHD blu-ray player. I'm probably in the minority but I would have bought a PS4 day fucken one had it have come with one.
I don't think the Scorpio will turn the tide because it still will essentially be tied to the Xbox One library, will cost much more than the PS4 Slim/Xbox One S and that Sony has better and more exclusives. The Scorpio will most like play multiplatform games at a higher resolution/frame rate than the Pro but that remains to be seen as the checkerboard rendering that it supposedly a Sony exclusive feature is very impressive and costs less(performance-wise) than true 4K rendering.
This is an animated picture comparing native rendering, checkerboard and upscaling(must be clicked on to animate):

Useless use of flops.
Scorpio could be 4.12(4.2?) Teraflops just like the Playstation 4 Pro and be twice as powerful.
DirtyP2002 said: RAM
DDR5 doesn't exist.
GDDR5 does.
12Gb is also a fairly odd number, likely using a 384bit memory bus, which means it will have an expensive memory subsystem that requires a ton of board traces and PCB layers.
DirtyP2002 said: CPU
No information on this currently. Only rumor and speculation.
Scorpio might just continue to use Jaguar.
ZEN based cores are going to be more transistor heavy than Jaguar.
DirtyP2002 said: BluRay-Drive
I think that is an accurate assumption. Microsoft has been flogging the 4k advertising hard with the Xbox One S.
DirtyP2002 said: What do you think about the Scorpio specs in comparison to the PS4 Pro?
Bottlenecks typically aren't as much of an issue for consoles.
Scorpio will be the most powerful console of this generation.
setsunatenshi said: sure, as I said before, Navi, Ryzen +, HBM2 and more mainstream use of SSDs The first 2 are already part of the known AMD roadmap in early 2018, so... yeah... good year to release a new console
Also likely not to be enough of a generational leap over Vega+HBM2+8-Core Jaguar to be worth bothering with.
Stacked TLC NAND is coming down in price, so hopefully they opt for that over mechanical storage next generation.
exclusive_console said: 6TF is not enough to have good gfx at 4K resolution.
Based on what? Flops? What does flops have to do with resolution?
aLkaLiNE said: Who the fuck cares? The ps4 and the ps4 pro have been owning all forms of Xbox one in every aspect of hardware for year(s) now and that was never a major discussion point nor did Sony ever try to market or brag about that. I'm hoping Microsoft plans to sell Scorpio off the back of actual exclusives first and foremost but all signs are pointing toward them trying to tout the power advantage because they seemingly don't have much else to talk about.
Scorpio could end up as the lead platform for many multiplats.
REDZONE said: Lol wut?MS had one console more powerful than Sony it was the OG Xbox and that was because it came 4 years later.Xbox 360>PS3?Lol no.It was hard to program for but First party exclusives spoke. The cell was a beast. It did had more ram tho.
The Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 had identical amounts of memory.
The Xbox 360 just had more usable memory thanks to a less memory hungry OS.
You are correct that the Playstation 3 had a slight edge in theoretical performance... But in the end, it never amounted to anything.
The Xbox 360 showed it could keep up with the Playstation 3 with Halo 4.
Rafie said: Halo 4 was a beautiful game. It's subjective to say it looked better than most 1st party games on PS3. Although I agree to a degree. What about most 1st party games on PS3? I don't want to start naming games and it turns into a list war. I'm not interested in that. Also we're off topic and I don't wanna be warned. So yes the point is still valid.
If you look at the technical achievements of Halo 4, it was competitive with the majority of 1st party Playstation 3 games.
shikamaru317 said: I'm about 99% sure it will beat PS4 Pro in every category. GPU and RAM are already confirmed. Don't know for sure if it will actually use a Zen CPU, but at the very least I think it will use some low power Excavator cores, which are still faster than Jaguar.
We have no idea about the GPU. The only thing we have is the amount of flops, which by itself is an utterly pointless metric.

False. Wikipedia is as accurate as the citations that the Wikipedia articles are built form.
Failure to check those to verify the sources of information is not Wikipedia's fault. It is the user.

At-least we don't hear "GDDR5" every thread now. :P
TheGreatOther said: Let's also not forget about the hundreds of PS1 and PS2 classics available on PS4. But really who the hell cares. We didn't buy PS4s and XB1s to play last gen games, let's just focus on the new games these consoles are providing for us.
The PC just plays. Everything.
SWORDF1SH said: The main reason PS4 isn't BC is because of the Cell. They would have to include a Cell chip in every PS4 for it to be PS3 BC. The PS4 is made up of 'off the shelf' parts so it should be no different to the latest PC playing older games.
No.
Ironically it's the Playstation 3 Emulator that is farther along in development on PC and not the Xbox 360.
Microsoft is also not just purely emulating Xbox 360 games.
They are virtualising the software ecosystem and relying on abstraction and repackaging of the games along with some low-level emulation.
There is zero reason why Sony cannot do the same on the Playstation 4, except they don't have the software development resources that Microsoft has.
SWORDF1SH said: But if it's such an amazing feature that boosts console sales, why wouldn't Sony do it?
They are leading the market. So why would they waste their time?
This is why competition is a wonderful thing.
Zekkyou said: To the best of my knowledge the PS4 and X1's CPUs are functionally the same thing, MS just took the risk of clocking theirs a bit higher (just as Sony have done with the Pro). While i do think it's likley the Scorpio will present some kind of CPU advantage, it'll have to involve either an updated version of Jaguar, or an entirely new CPU. If they simply further upclock the X1's CPU, it'll be similar to the Pros. There's a limit to how far that boat can be pushed out.
Actually the Xbox One's CPU tends to perform above the Playstation 4's CPU to a larger extent than the clockspeed implies.
The eSRAM and DDR3 memory seems to give it an edge in latency there, especially during mis-predicts.
walsufnir said: Actually the ESRAM stuff will be interesting. I don't see how you could offer the speed with main memory (and before the someone comes up with the useless maxbw GDDDR5(X) stuff - you're wrong) and I don't see how they solve that with software alone. It'll be interesting to see, for sure.
This interests me as well.
Even if they were to try and "Emulate" the eSRAM in GDDR5X memory, there will be a large latency penalty, I don't see it being feasible.
The other tactic they could take is to retain the eSRAM and use it as an L4 cache for the CPU in "Scorpio Mode" and eSRAM in "Xbox One S mode".
Microsoft are pretty good at software engineering though, so I wouldn't put it past them coming up with a software solution, but I am keen as pie to know how they do it.
walsufnir said: The ESRAM on XBO is dedicated for the GPU and it's way nearer to the numbers they said, they even gave out real application numbers.
The CPU can use the eSRAM as well. (Not that there is any point.)
However the CPU has to take a long trip through system memory to achieve it, which works out to be slow and pointless.

They better not. Halo 3 first. It was my favorite game in the franchise.

Off topic but I keep hearing about hopes for a halo 3 remaster. I ask why? We already got that game in mcc. What I want is for them to either just not have a halo this year and go all out on making 6 the best game they can. Or to make a sequel to the most underrated game in the series: odst. show us they can make a good campaign again before 6. 4 was great but guardians was the worst in the series.
Halo MCC will sell 5+ million copies(including digital)
halo 5 will sell 10 million copies(including digital)
x1 will pass ps4 in USA, and UK.

It was the Halo game that put the Xbox 360 on the map.
It was one of the most popular Xbox Live games for years and one of the best selling Xbox 360 games of all time at 14.5 million copies sold. (GTA 5 did 18 million on the 360.)
It had a great campaign, fun multiplayer, user-created content thanks to forge and it actually had allot of great effects employed in it's game engine, such as HDR, tessellated water, double buffering and other dynamic effects etc'.
It did allot of firsts, right.
The Master Chief Collection only took Halo 3 and rendered it at 1080P... Unfortunately some of the assets don't seem to have transitioned over perfectly... Especially the sprites and sky boxes.
And well. The Master Chief Collection was a bug-ridden unplayable mess for months after launch anyway, it's multiplayer is almost dead as a door nail.
ODST was also supposed to be a campaign "expansion" for Halo 3 (Also known as DLC for you young wipper snappers), it even uses Halo 3's game engine and multiplayer. (Minus fire fight.)
I would like ODST to be done at the same time as Halo 3 to be honest and bundled together... Halo 3 though turns 10 years old this year, hence why it should receive the Anniversary treatment... They should release Halo 6 next year so we don't get another aweful Halo-5-like game again, Australian swear-words cannot describe how dissapointed I was with that game.
***
By the way. We are getting a Halo game this year. Two in-fact. Halo 2 and Halo Wars the Definitive edition.
Microsoft might also wake up and release the only Halo game never to arrive on an Xbox console on Xbox. Or pigs might fly apparantly.

Thanks. I was waiting for your reply to this thread. Your knowledge is always welcome.

My word, Pemalite. Do you work for a computer company? I have been on this site (and lurking) for years and I haven't seen someone with PC knowledge as extensive as yours. Salute man!
Also to reply to your reply to mines....I definitely wasn't arguing the Halo 4 bit. That's why I said I agree to a degree. Halo 4 was a marvel. I just think it's subjective to say that it looks better than the majority of the PS3 1st party. I do agree from a technical standpoint, it rivals most.

I agree, they are not in a good way with the Xbone, but Papa Phil has been working pretty hard to erase the stigma the brand was in thanks to the previous regime, he's been succeeding thus far, but its too late for this gen really. I'm fine with doing away with hardware generations. I upgrade phones and cycle through televisions every three years or so, no reason why I can't do that with my consoles imho. |
We are in the same club, with preferred brands.

People don't realize that xbox scorpio will probably be the cheapest way to play 9th gen games. I guarantee xbox scorpio will be able to play 9th gen games at lower rez/textures. So this may convince people to go with xbox scorpio to save money while playing 9th gen games.
