Sure, because the Wii had a bad start.

Yes yes, they clogged the shelves.

That wasn't bundled in Japan and as we've seen over the years since the Wii, Japan is now calling ALL the shots so I really wouldn't count on that as an example. Despite how much favorable it would make the system, Nintendo won't give away a full game for free if they can sell it seperately.

Because of course, a region can't have different bundles: and there is a history of it.

You already pointed out we had a bundled Wii Sports and Japan didn't: even now we have games that get bundled with consoles in the west Japan doesn't have (like Luigi's mansion, Wind Waker HD, and Zombi U) and vice versa (Wii Party U, Xenoblade X, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate).

The Democratic Nintendo fan....is that a paradox? I'm fond of one of the more conservative companies in the industry, but I vote Liberally and view myself that way 90% of the time?

True but I am talking about at launch. Some months down the road, there will no doubt be bundled games that is natural for any system. But at launch, most hardware since the 32/64 bit era have been stand alone devices, forcing you to buy the games seperately (obviously not counting unique store bundle sales or some of Nintendo's own limited edition device bundles if they carry that over to the Switch).

I think it would be really cool if they bundle Zelda BotW with the Switch.

Nintendo bundled the NES with Gyromite and Duck Hunt, two games showing off the peripherals of the NES, not Super Mario (that came later). We have to consider launches since that is what the questionis. It really depends on whether Nintendo has something else up their sleeve. I do think it wil come with a game, but whether that's Zelda or a console-gimmick specific title is anyone's guess. Only 10 days and we'll probably know a little more. But I'd definitely say that either way there will be a game in the box.

Yeah! Splatoon!

Switch!!!

Nintendo has been rather unique in the console industry in that their home systems have typically had a game bundled with it at launch. The N64 and GameCube were exceptions, but the NES had Super Mario Bros., the SNES had Super Mario World, the Wii had Wii Sports, and the Wii U had Nintendo Land. However, their handhelds have typically not had a game bundled with it at launch. The original Game Boy had Tetris, but the GBA, DS, and 3DS had nothing packed in at launch, with all the bundles coming later. Since the Switch is a hybrid system, that makes one wonder which outcome is more probable: will it have a pack-in game at launch, or will it be by its lonesome in the box, with the bundles coming later on.

Well, what do you guys think? Will Nintendo reveal a launch bundle for the Switch, or do you think it'll be standalone for a while, with all games sold separately? Personally, I think it might help attract customers, but I really think at best it's a 50/50 chance. I guess we'll find out in a couple of weeks.

that's not even really true:

WiiU Basic: 8 Gb of storage, $299.99

WiiU Deluxe: 32 Gb of storage, Nintendo Land, $349.99

it's not a bundle in the same way as mario(s), tetris, wii sports if you have to spend an extra $50 to get it.

Well, depends on if you count the test market launch or the full regional launch. When the NES was released in test markets in 1985, it only had the Gyromite & Duck Hunt plus Zapper & R.O.B. deluxe bundle. For the full launch in Sept. '86, there was a regular "Control Deck" bundle that had SMB included, as well as the big bundle that was released in test markets.

Crazy...didn't know that.  Also didn't know I purchased in a test market.  We must have been very lucky.  Thanks for the heads up.

It'll be bundled with Zelda... callin' it

Yes, they would be bonkers not to go old school and bundle a Mario game.

based on what? No Nintendo mainline console since the early 90s has been released with a pack in game and frankly generally you add a good pack in game when you really NEED to pull in sales. I don't think Nintendo is going to have an issue selling the Switch, simiarly they didn't for the most part need a pack in game to sell the 3DS recently.

as someone else already mentioned I wouldn't exactly count a Wii Sports or Nintendo Land a genuine solid 'pack in' since they're kind of small party games. Those suggesting a Mario or Zelda pack in title or not being realistic, those are the types of games Nintendo will sell to a big percentage of early console adopters SEPERATELY, to pack in a title like that would cost them a lot in software revenue

Extremely questionable on whether or not they'll pack in much of anything, the most realistic option is that they might pack in a revision game, something like the updated Mario Kart or Splatoon, since both of which will just likely have some added content and not actually be new major projects

Don't you think Nintendo wants the Switch to hit the ground running?
