Forums - Nintendo - Why I think Nintendo Switch is set for another Wii U disaster.

You don't need to be a Nintendo diehard to want the switch. It will have exclusives. I will probably want to play those exclusives. Thus I will need the system.

The thing is, the exclusives may be few and far between like with Wii U.

Considering what Nintendo was able to do for the 3ds and WiiU separately, pooling their development efforts together on one device should make this the best software supported Nintendo platform we've ever seen!

It would be interesting to update this thread after the event. Whether it is a positive or negative reaction.

The lack of real info is would normally worry me, but lets see how much ground Nintendo has gained with third party. If they havent gained ground the console is all kinds of screwed. Regardless im looking forward to this.

The way I see it, there is a good chance the Switch will fail as a home console.

Hold on, take your hands off the keyboard and let me finish.

I think it might fail as a home console while still being successful as a handheld--if it's cheap enough. With most consumers in the west, I don't think the Switch is going to do all that well with people who go in thinking that they really want the top home console games and the best home console experience. I think Xbox and Playstation are still going to be more popular as answers to that question.

That doesn't cover every consumer, however. There will be those who really want a handheld and those who really want a hybrid. That's Nintendo's market to lose. Honestly, I think they should really emphasize that difference in advertising instead of going at Sony and Microsoft head-on with a "home console".

That, of course, is supposing that the rumors are true and the Switch won't have full western home console support.

Not much use thinking like that since there's no way to tell what people are buying the system for, and such semantics don't matter anyway, as long as people are buying and playing it Nintendo is good to go.

Those who are bringing example of PS4 and Xbox One need to remember that PS4 Pro has already been released and slowly it is becoming standard platform and soon Xbox Scorpio will be the same. Games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and many others will have modes optimized for PS4 Pro and Xbox Scorpio. Soon developers will be focusing on PS4 Pro, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Scorpio and PC and no one will have time for another platform.

Not a good start for 2017...

It absolutely matters.  You have to know your audience and plan your marketing strategy accordingly.  Presentation is a key part of doing business.  Perception becomes reality.  You can pitch the exact same product different ways and dramatically hurt or help your bottom line.

Yes. I believe Nintendo already know that, and that's why they focused on the mobile aspect in the trailer.

Nah, if there's money to be made on Switch they'll make time for it. The question is if there's any money to be made on Switch, for western third partys anyway.

I meant if Switch sells 60 million but only 10 million of it's owners have it on the dock 100% of the time, then I don't think it matters that it failed as a home console when it still succeeded overall.

So with your logic power is everything. No wonder the Vita smashed the 3DS in sales..
The Switch is a Portable console it just needs to run games which it will with its specs. The ability to take the Switch anywhere is a major selling point and one reason why ill be buying one. I couldn't care less if its more powerful than the XB1 or PS4. I have a PC to run graphical games. Switch is for pure fun. And many gamers just want a fun cheap console. Nintendo's biggest enemy right now is price because that will make or break the system in my opinion.
Also a good advantage is the No Subscription model. Hopefully that doesn't change.

PS- Who gives a F%^& what Ubisoft says.
