I thought I read/heard that both parties were hacked or phished but only Democrat party emails were released. Democrat emails weren't even that damning besides maybe to Clinton. It basically showed the elites in the Democrats trying their hardest to prop Clinton up and bring down Bernie which we already knew.
What screwed Clinton the most I believe was the weekbefore the elections the FBI director James Comey coming out and saying the investigation was being relaunched due to newly discovered evidence. That knocked the sails out of the Clinton campaign and it didn't matter that a couple days before the election they came out and stated that nothing substantial was found. It was over. That her unability to court burned Bernie supporters which stayed home or voted for Trump... and then you have the electoral college process which will be flawed until it is proportionally divided among the votes which would end the states throwing out the votes of the losing candidates.

Even to Clinton, they weren't really damning. Some guys in the DNC preferred her to Sanders. Some discussed potential Sanders weaknesses. Others said some mean things because Sanders was attacking the DNC. None of it was acted upon. Clinton won fairly, by millions of votes, regardless of that crap, which was mostly dated in May after Sanders lost most of the major races and was pretty far behind.
In the Podesta emails, the most damning stuff was related to Donna Brazille, and that was kind of it. Very little evidence of genuine foul play or corruption beyond her, and all she did was send out some debate questions. Crappy and unethical, but that's not why Clinton won the primary, the Clinton campaign didn't ask for them, and we've no evidence Clinton ever saw them. Going by some of the stuff I read in this thread, I am getting the impression that many read about the emails on right wing sites, rather than the actual emails.
And yeah, Comey's letter is exactly what did it. 538's Nate Silver makes a pretty good case for it: http://www.mediaite.com/online/nate-silver-clinton-wouldve-almost-certainly-become-president-if-not-for-comeys-letter/ Frankly, I don't think most voters were even that aware of the contents of the Russian leaks. The media wasn't really covering them in the same breathless manner as other Clinton and Trump related scandals. Still, we should all be freaked out by what our intelligence agencies have found, regardless of political affiliation.
And let's also keep in mind how one sided these hacks were: we never got emails from the Sanders campaign, the Trump campaign, or the RNC. These hacks and releases were targeted against a single candidate. That everyone here isn't disturbed that our election was influenced by a malicious foreign power is...well, disappointing. But hey, at least your side won, right? Guess Russia ain't so bad now.
But it seems even foreign interference in our elections is a partisan thing now, and I've no interest in explaining why Russia trying to manipulate our elections is a bad thing for us, since it shouldn't even be up for discussion. So I think I will quit this thread now.
