The 3DS finished with as many quality exclusives as the PS4, XB1 and Wii U combined. Maybe this will give people a hint that the concerns about Switch third party support are unwarranted?

Nah.

Of course it won't.

2017 looks to be much better than 2016.....
PS4 is the new PS2, its the console to own this gen, your missing out on too much if you dont.

If you don't care for Japanese stuff you really arent missing out on much that isn't on Xbox. Nothing like the PS2, it had a first party lineup that blows PS4 away. The PS4 first party stuff has been mostly meh imho.

I know your argument is "if you get rid of Japanese stuff, PS4 and XBOne are basically the same".....but what was the "Japanese stuff" that released on PS4 this year?

Street Fighter V? Last Guardian? World of Final Fantasy? Are you really gonna bundle those in with random, obscure Japanese titles (which I know is what you mean by "Japanese stuff", like Odin Sphere Leifthrasir) just because the production company is Japanese? That'd be like saying Resident Evil or Metal Gear Solid is just "Japanese stuff" to be brushed to the side, despite those games having mass appeal.

If not, though, then with SFV, TLG, World of FF, Ratchet and Clank, UC4, MLB 16, Digimon Cyber Sleuth, and King of Fighters XIV, that's just shy of half of the "quality" amount of PS4 exclusives for 2016 and one more than the total number for XBOne.

That was brutal XD. I chuckled a lot, so thanks xD.

Okey, so a handheld is not a console now? That's... new. The headline states "console", not "home console". Headline would be right if that was the case.

I can't vouch for the article itself, but I've always seen a device such as a 3DS or a VITA  as a handheld while several outlet have shared my view as well.

A handheld what?

Simply calling it a handheld doesn't make sense because the word handheld just describes something that you hold in your hand, it doesn't actually state what the product is.

The technical term would be handheld console or handheld gaming device. Handheld describes the form factor while console/gaming device states what the product is.

Last Guardian and WoFF, yes, obviously. SFV no, obviously not :)

More than a few of those games you listed aren't PS4 exclusives, and idk what list of Xbone exclusives you're referencing, but it's irrelevant anyway. I could list a quality Xbone alternative to almost all of those games, hence as I said, not missing out on much. You're free to disagree, I just don't consider Digimon or World of FF or MLB to be much of anything (and not PS4 exclusive either).

PS4 did have the best exclusives this year, but Wii U was an irrelevance, and Xbox doesn't even have true exclusives, only console ones, so it isn't exactly saying much

Next year should see a real battle between PS4 and Switch

It's funny how all these things (Metascore, sales, number of games, etc.) were all used by the anti-Playstation camps to criticize Sony and PS3, last gen; Now that all of these are in PS4's favor, they've suddenly become irrelevant to those same groups. Funny how that works...

Great to see PS4 doing such an awesome job. My favorite console this gown, by far. Can't wait to play what Sony has coming our way.

Wasn't that due to how those metrics were used in the gen before that?

If you want to play around with the semantics, sure, but let's be real; these console wars really didn't take off on the internet until around the time the 7th gen was begining. Yeah, Sony boasted these metrics in the begining of the PS2 era, but they weren't used to the extent they are now until 360 released.

A handheld you can plug into your TV versus a massively popular home console?  Apples and oranges...  I think Nintendo was done with head to head after Sega bowed out.  They have their niche and will continue to successfully exploit that.

Just an FYI, I was referencing the total number of "quality exclusives" per the Metacritic article. It said PS4 had 17 and XBOne had 7, although it doesn't give a list of the games specifically, so I just went off the top of my head of the biggest PS4 exclusives of the year that weren't niche titles.

Ps4 average is higher though

Congrats, that means so much... But the point about the shovelware stands, just a natural thing, it happened also with Ps2, the winner takes it all.

I get your point, mine is that even with the natural inclination that top performers have to atract anything(shovelware included), the PS4 balances it much better than the Wii did. I think the Wii had that trait more pronounced than most winning consoles.

Anyway, like a lot of people said, bad games don't erase the good ones
