Forums - Nintendo - Why would devs back another underpowered Nintendo console?

They wont. Most of them, like Fromsoftware and Bethesda are only gonna port old games to the console, so strictly speaking Nintendo can claim they have their support, even tho they are only going to port old game or make some shitty spinoff like Squareenix does

???

We didn't get FFX on GCN. Instead we got FF: Crystal Chronicles.

I think that the answer is pretty simple. 3rd party devs are betting that this will have Wii like success and want to get in on the ground floor. Problem is that Switch will need their own exclusive games because its so weak. Will 3rd party devs be willing to do this?

They want Nintendo to stay in the console indudtry?

Switch will most likely have a good amount of japanese 3rd party support, the western support is another story and that will depend on how well the console sells, although even that doesn't guarantees that every 3rd party company will put all their games on the switch.

I am 0% convinced skyrim will even appear on the Switch, as far as I could tell it was simply video playing for marketing purposes.

Dark souls? Yeah sure... we'll see about that next month too...

I think both will be on Switch, but really what is the big deal with Skyrim?

It's a 5 year old game, lol, whoopity doo.

Japanese developers I think will actually try reasonably on the Switch though, but for obvious reasons ... Switch figures to be the dominant game platform in Japan, so they have no choice but to take it seriously.

Unlike the DS/3DS as well, Nintendo's never had a portable this close to current generation Japanese games either (even if the specs are underwhelming to some).

i tell you like 100 times on other threads that Skirym Especial Edition is not the same 5 year old game, and 5 years ago it was a game that the ps360 barely ran stop repeating your mantra and please accept the reality.

34 years playing games.

Japanese devs are on board because of the portability, but western devs I think are bullshiting. I bet only Ubisoft is gonna give it a real chance, everyone else will be done after one late inferior port unless Nintendo moneyhatted. I'd like to be wrong of course, but I'm keeping my expectations in check.

Yeah Western devs unfortunately will probably bail out after the first year or so like Wii U.

Nintendo fans are picky as fuck too, they turned their nose up at perfectly good PS3/360 ports on the Wii U and cited reasons like "well the frame rate is like 2 frames less on the Wii U, developer waz lazy".

LOL, if that's going to be the attitude for Switch ports it's going to be ugly, because much larger compromises are going to have to be made to get a lot of games running on the system.

I think Nintendo should just agree to cover part of the costs for FIFA/Madden NFL/NBA 2K/Assassin's Creed/COD games on Switch if it comes to that.

At least you'll have sports + 1 FPS IP + 1 third person action IP that way.

If Switch actually sells and become popular, 3rd party will stay, its very simple.

The answer is simple. They feel like the Switch is a winner. While it may not be all that powerful, it can still run all the modern game engines that developers like. Games that work on Xbox One and PS4 today can still work on the Switch and it will be a good investment for third parties for at least two or three more years. Then there's the portability aspect of the Switch. A lot of people will be buying it just for that.

The problem with Wii U is that Nintendo wasn't quite sure how to market the thing. Third parties were as equally confused. Also, even though Wii U could play everything PS3 and Xbox 360 could play, the timing for the system's release was bad. Had it been released in 2011, that would have meant that third parties would have a little more until their games started running into roadblocks. Had Nintendo held off until 2013, they might have been able to put powerful hardware in the Wii U at a lower cost.

Agree.

It's more complicated than that.

At end of day that is most important, its also important that Switch supports all modern engines and that its seems thats is easy  to work/port for it, but even if is basically PS4 just with Nintendo logo 3rd party would abandoned very quickly if it doesn't sell.

Who says it isn't a port of the 360/PS3 game?

Switch should be able to run a port of any PS3/360 game.
