Forums - Gaming - Crytek to close all studios except Frankfurt HQ and Warface studio in Kiev

Press release:

Crytek today outlined a series of changes to its future business plans that will see the company refocus on its core strengths of developing innovative games and game-development technology

As part of the changes, Crytek will concentrate on development in its Frankfurt and Kiev studios and continue to develop and work on premium IPs. CRYENGINE will remain a core pillar of Crytek’s overall strategy, with enterprise licensees and indie developers alike continuing to be served by regular engine updates. All other development studios will not remain within Crytek and management has put plans into action to secure jobs and to ensure a smooth transition and stable future.

Crytek Co-Founder and Managing Director, Avni Yerli, said: “Undergoing such transitions is far from easy, and we’d like to sincerely thank each and every staff member – past and present – for their hard work and commitment to Crytek. These changes are part of the essential steps we are taking to ensure Crytek is a healthy and sustainable business moving forward that can continue to attract and nurture our industry’s top talent. The reasons for this have been communicated internally along the way. Our focus now lies entirely on the core strengths that have always defined Crytek – world-class developers, state-of-the-art technology and innovative game development, and we believe that going through this challenging process will make us a more agile, viable, and attractive studio, primed for future success.”

Well that's unfortunate. Hopefully the people that lose their positions can land on their feet at another company :/

Time for MS to buy Ryse : son of rome, IP and hire some of their tallent.

They could probably get the IP for cheap (their in a tough spot) and those workers that havnt been payed in months, would probably welcome a new job at MS.

Refocusing just in time for the Switch release. Looking forward to their ports.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Oh, Crytek. They made bad decision after bad decision after bad decision.

Did those other studios even produce anything? I only know they renamed Free Radical Design and that was closed 2 years ago.

Someone should buy Crytek and its tech. Its a shame the $70 million injection from Amazon for their engine wasn't enough.

The wasted ammount speaks volumes about how incompetent management was in this case. Too bad, Crysis was actually a decent series.

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

I said a few years ago that Crytek was expanding way too fast. They've never had the kind of product output that could sustain that. It was like they wanted to be the next EA and they were willing to take big risks to get there instead of building up their portfolio over time.

Terrible mismanagement there, especially with constantly jumping on the next big thing instead of making great games.

I'd also like to take this opportunity to say, once again, that Crysis 3 was one of the worst big budget games I've ever played.

It's a miracle they're not out of business already. They have zero chance to survive, it's just a matter of time before they're bankrupt.

You can't make enuff money with a grafix engine since there are so many competing ones, and Crytek's franchises are extremely weak. Crisis and Rise are hardly million sellers in the current market, which is increasingly about a few big budget monster titles. It's all very sad.
