No it isn't, it just happens to be the best of the weak bunch, you can't compare that to Episode IV or V.

Note my edit.

I think Empire Strikes Back just elevated things too high, so high that I don't think even Star Wars will ever touch that again.

It's like getting the greatest blow job from a Victoria Secret model. You could die happy right there.

I hate that comparison, but yeah the level was so high is hard to repeat, very hard. However I think that If we talk purely about cinematographic quality episode VII was amazing, with a great script (something VII lacks) and that level of quality they can make another classic in the future.

I actually don't think it's that easy.

Can they ever top the character of Yoda? Doubtful.

Can they ever top the character of Darth Vader? Doubtful (sorry Kylo Ren, you can have all the little tantrums you want).

Can they ever top the "twist" of Darth Vader being Luke's father? No I don't think so.

And even ROTJ, while having problems, the Luke/Vader/Emperor scenes are fucking nigh perfect, arguably even better than anything in Empire. The drama, the pathos, father vs. son, son vs. the father, it's all just about perfect.

Dramatically I think it's tough, I mean they can still make good Star Wars movies, but they kinda blew their load on those first three movies.

I mean they can do some fun stuff in the next two movies like having Luke kick ass for a bit and Rey is Luke's daughter or whatever (won't be a surprise) and even have Kylo turn back to good or whatever, but none of this stuff is really going to be groundbreaking.

Even going forward, the next film is probably John Williams' last ... can they even replace the musical contributions he's made to the franchise? I doubt it.

Is the Ninja Turtle from Episode 7 in this movie?

I'm so fucking excited for Rogue One, especially because i've heard nothing but hype for some of Vader's scenes in it.

I love to see Star Wars expanding out of just trilogy films and doing more things like this since they have been expanding the Star Wars universe for a bit with the tv shows already. I like seeing all these different characters, both already established and new interacting with eachother such as how we get to see classics like Darth Vader and others in this while also being introduced to brand new characters in the Star Wars universe.

The 2 minutes that Vader is in the movie?

I didn't watch the review but I'm happy to hear the film is getting positive buzz. I wasn't too excited after seeing the trailers and I was disappointed by Episode VII (maybe my expectations were too high) so maybe this film will blow me away. I've been a fan of Star Wars since I was old enough to walk and I'm always ready for a new film.

I know he's barely in it, but that still doesn't change the fact that he apparently has a scene that is really amazing. I already looked at the spoilers for it since I couldn't resist the hype so i'm already excited to see him in the movie, as short as his scenes or his general prescence in the movie may be. Though I am dissapointed a bit that he doesn't play a larger role in the movie since I wanted to see him have at least like 10 minutes in it, i'm still excited.

Pretty sure Wrath of Khan is. It's even cited in a Weeknd song, when a movie is still referenced in popular music 30 years after its release, I'd say that's a classic.

Undiscovered Country and First Contact are also very good and The Voyage Home works (though a bit far fetched).

No it isn't, it just happens to be the best of the weak bunch, you can't compare that to Episode IV or V. In fact I won't even compare it to episode VI or even VII xD

Ha, I feel the same about Star wars. Episode IV is the best of the weakening bunch. Episode V starts great yet the big fat to be continued followed by the much weaker ROTJ holds it down. Star Trek does have some very weak movies though, but TNG series was amazing.

Is gonna be good just as episode VII was good (critics and audience agree despite what angry internet people say)

And btw:
Star Wars >>>>>>>>> Star Trek

Not even in the same league if we talk about cinematography, not a single Star Trek movie is even close to be a classic.

I'm watching Star Trek TOS from 1967 and I enjoy it a lot more than SW VII. The characters, the stories, all very memorable. SW prequels and VII ain't got none of that.

Also Star Trek is more than just a sci fi franchise.  It shows us a better tomorrow, encourage us to dream of what could be, and to work towards it in a spirit of optimism.  A united humanity exploring galaxies instead of killing each other. There aren't many series/movies that can say they've made the world a better place. Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek is one of them.

Am I the only one who prefers star trek to star wars? I mean I just feel so lonely here.

Nope, both are awesome though but just different.

I'm watching TOS on netflix and '50 years later it's still very enjoyable.
