If theres 50m PS4 owners (sold to consumers), how many do you guys think Sony has shipped?
Are we looking at like 54m shipped? or something like that?

The difference between sold through and shipped for PS4 has to be really tiny. Sony hasn't announced shipped numbers this gen at all, probably because each system sells as soon as it gets shipped.

They announce shipped numbers literally every 3 months in their financial reports

PS4 Pro will extend the life of the generation a little. But I don't think we're going to get a lifespan as long as the 7th gen. Because PS4 (and Scoprio) can't deliver Native 4K on AAA titles but they are delivering upscaled 4K they will manufacture demand for true 4K and thus bring on the 9th generation. Which still will only be able to deliver native 4K on AA titles, but not AAA.

100 million is possible, but unlikely.

I wonder if this puts PS4 at 2:1 over Xb one? Probably not, I imagine Black Friday put Xb one over 25 million if it wasn't already there before BF.

You are putting too much stock into the relevance of native 4k. And as for the lenght if this gen, I still stand by my original assessment that we won't see 9th gen consoles from Sony/MS till chip fabrications processes shrink from 14nm to 7nm. Chip fabrication is the harbinger of a new generation of consoles.

I also think that 100M is pretty much guaranteed at his point. Say by the end of this year Sony does 54/55M. And then puts in a 20M year next year (which is very likely cause we will have a sub $199 PS4 then) we are looking at around 75M at the end of 2017. Now even if sales drop off a cliff all it has to do is sell 12..5M consoles each year for 2018 and 2019. Mind you, this gen has still not yet got its RDR, GT or GOW. Can you imagine how sales will be for a $199 console with games like RDR, GTS and GOW looming around? Still think it's unlikely?

On another note, here is an interesting observation. 3 of the top 5 best selling home consoles of all time are Playstations. And The PS4 is racing to make that 4 out of the top 5. Yet some people still doubt the relevance of Sony in the home console market?

Don't forget GTA6.  This will come near the end of the gen and sales of ps4 that holiday will be insane.  Vast majority of gta copies will be sold on ps4 and by then the base version will probably cost $199 if not $149.

I didnt put GTA6 in because of RDR isn't even out yet and i expect GTA6 to be at least 2/3 years after that. Considering that on the PS4 Rockstar has sold 12M+ of their remastered GTA5 game we can understand why they are in no hurry to release any new games.

But yh, we aren't even in the best of the PS4 years yet. I expect next year to be the last year we see any major sales movement due to price, as next year the PS4 will probably be as low as $180-$199 around the holiday period. With the PS4pro at $299. After that point we won't see any significant price drops anymore, just the odd $20 here or there.

The next major hardware push will be when RDR2/GTA6 comes along. And things like GTs/GT7/GOW.

I honestky can't believe some people think the PS4 isn't going to hit 100M.

And some feel the scorpio will make some sort of difference. it wouldn't. not in the slightest. But that's another story.

1) o, estimating that PS4 reached 50 millions, do you thing Xbox one reached 30 milions?

2) PS4 possibly sold beetween 1,8 and 2 millions during black friday.

3) Xbox one possibly sold beetween 1,4 and 1,7 millions during black friday?

What do you think about these projections?

Lol NO.

1) Xbox one at 25 millionsish. 22 millions sales for end of september 2016.

Vgchartz is probably really close to reality for Xbox one numbers.

2/3) I don't think so. we need to wait Npd tho.

Maybe, I think it has a very good shot. It basically just depends on when the PS5 launches.

PS4 should be at least 70 Million sold through by end of 2017.... 85 million 2018? 95+ million 2019?

It's not going to immediately stop selling when ps5 launches either, assuming PS5 doesn't launch till Holiday 2019 I'd be surprised if it didn't reach the 100 million mark.

I feel like native 4K is going to be the standard resolution for PS5, in the same that 1080p was for PS4. Performance-wise, we'll probably see 60 FPS with upscaled 4K for games like Battlefield, and then 4K/ 60 FPS for multiplayer. I sincerely doubt that Sony is going to try to kickstart the 4K age on consoles, and not try to make it a standard on their next console iteration. PS5 will be very interesting.

PS4 is seriously under tracked on VGChartz. Unless in last 5 weeks sold 4.2 mln units.

It's possible.  That's about what it did over the same 5 weeks last year.

It sold over 2 million units during Black Friday week, alone, and we still never got the solid figures from Cyber Monday; just that A LOT of hardware was moved and that PS4 was the best seller. 4.2 million in 5 weeks is very likely, as incredible as it sounds.

Press Release

Wow, it actually says "sold through" in the press release. That's crazy. They've sold 20 million units from last year's PSX, to this one.

That means 20 million for the year. If I'm not mistaken, didn't Sony say they were anticipating 14.5 million sales? If so, then they exceeded their mark by a huge margin.

On top of that, if I'm not wrong, this year wasnt even PS4's peak year. Once games like GT Sport, God of War, and Spider-Man hit the market, as well as a price drop to $250, PS4 is easily going to push 25 million units in 2017. That's just insane.

Yee it will, and the PS4pro and the upscoming scorpio is definately going to prolong this gen. 4.2TF or 6TF is not enough for native 4k across eveeything. At least not on oar with what native 4k will look like on PCs.

With a 7nm chipset however, we can see anywhere between 10-12TF GPUs in consoles. So as I keep saying, when you start hearing talks of 7nm chips, then know the next generation if consoles are just around the corner.

As funny as it may sound, even with a 10/12TF GPU, I don't think Sony will chase or try and force native 4k. I think they will improve the checkerboard hardware they have in their current PS4pro GPU and insist all devs go for 2160p checkerboard. Channelling all that extra power into other aspects of the games IQ. It's a smarter use of power.

Someone really needs to analyze what Sony has done and you better be sure Microsoft will be doing so.
Scorpio is coming next holiday. Thats fine. But holidays are the about saving money. Thats why the Slim went berserk and beat the Pro (and all Xbox SKUs) in 2 days. So next holiday, within the Xbox ecosystem, the biggest driver will be the Xbox One S.

Looking at 56m+ shipped by the end of the year.
