Even if it never sells another copy ever, a lot of major franchises will never catch up to it; it's already sold over 200 million. ;)

Sure.  But, if there were more options for Wii U owners, they may have sold even worse.  

Games flop on all systems, for various reasons.

If "lack of competition" was a guarantee of success, they wouldn't have flopped.
