Forums - Sony - PSX, an example on why Sony is winning this generation

Xbox is dead at this point and Switch will probably be as big as Wii so I totally expect a Sony Nintendo domination in the coming years.

That will be a double edged sword is the problem. 3rd parties won't think twice about porting a game that's a sloppy port while docked and practically unplayable in handheld mode. And it seems for every bit of praise it gets, it's also followed up by statements such as "it's gonna be great for the family" and "we want to approach making games that best fit for the Switch" all the while a ton of major 3rd party games are announced with no Switch version.

As a Nintendo fan I hope this time next year I'm eating crow.

Then, let's just see what they're gonna give us in January 12nd at the NS press conference.

Essentially, the problem with that is it's gonna be a fluff job Jan 12. Just like Bethesda talking about how Skyrim is coming to Switch and Skyrim Special Edition is coming to PS4 and Xbone, yet people still believe Skyrim SE is coming to Switch. You won't see the downside to Switch in the Jan presentation.

I do agree that Sony has the most important thing that matters when it comes to the industry, and that is having games.

Sony giving the people what they want. And they have a lot more coming that's already announced that they didn't even show. Truly amazing.

More powerful console launched at a cheaper price. Combine that with better marketing, buying exclusives and exclusive marketing rights and generally more aggressive marketing than last gen and no “drama“ around the box like Xbox had. There you know why they are leading.

PS4 has both the quality, quantity and diversity.

Sony singlehandedly trying to usher in a new golden age of games.

This.  So often people looking at the lists of games for the PS4 and talk about quality over quantity, but the truth is Sony has both on lock.  Not only is it getting every 3rd party game, but its getting a lot of quality exclusives, whether 1st, 2nd , or 3rd party.  And a lot of good indie games to round out the list of games and genres represented on the system.

the 2017 line up is so insane.

Fact of the matter is events like "PSX" don't really impact the regular buyer.

We (the people who follow events like this) are the vast, vast minority and we bought our next-gen consoles like 3 years ago.

Sony took advantage of MS' early blunders this generation, and today when you have a lead it's harder to come back because systems are tied to online networks. So if today "Johnny" is looking to buy a next gen console it's less about "OMG, PSX event had some niche Japanese exclusive" and more about "4 of my friends already have a PS4, if I want to play Madden or COD online with them I have to buy a PS4".

Half the stuff people argue about on this board I really don't think the average joe I see buying a system really gives a shit about.

Go to a GameStop or Best Buy and say "wow, guess you're buying that PS4 because Ni No Kuni 2 is exclusive, huh? That PSX trailer was unreal, right? Microsoft just has no answer for this" and you'll get either laughed at or a puzzled look.

You are completely right, but thats the whole point.WE are the early adopters, We are the ones that set the trend, simply because we are the ones that go out and say to the average Joe "Hey, this console has awesome games!Go out and buy it so you can enjoy it too/play with me".There is a very good video that talk about with from MatPat.If you have the time I recommend you check it out:

By we, I mean the hardcore gamers, which obviously includes us, but also include the big youtube channels, such as lets play channels, opinion channels, and more. And they are obviously extremely influential. And that is, and was the great marketing push the PS4 needed to be successful and continues to be successful because of that.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.
