Forums - Gaming Discussion - FFXV ships 5 million worldwide

Nuvendil said:
Nice performance but not entirely unexpected. FFXV has had a ton of positivity and hype in the western markets and lots of signs pointed to it doing well here. That Japan digital sales bit is surprising though, given the file size.

Japan as a good average bandwith, at least in urban areas.

Meanwhile Sun/Moons first week was 12m. Yet we keep being told that turn based RPGs are dead and action is the only thing that sells now. The facts say otherwise...

Sold for 40 bucks with far less digital sales, and no season pass. A yeah and people didnt bought a pokemon spin off game in order to play a demo like Type 0 which sold over a million times.

Awesome performance!!!

The performace hasnt started yet xD

Well with 5M shipped we can expect an awesome perfomance.

And to all the people who say that the 5M shipments are not important: The 10M goal from Square Enix is also about shipped units and not sell-through.

And considering the digital sales it must have passed Pokemon 12M.

'cause prove it false, right? XD
That digital sales argument was really well taken here, congratulations.

No one can prove this game haven't over 60% of digital attach ratio. This game is so good I bought it in disc once, but decided to buy another 2 digital version just in case.

Thanks for recognizing the effort.

Nice. If they made 2 games, it would have sold 10M.

What does digital sales have to do with anything? They`re both shipment figures so would both include digital and whether one has more digital sales than the other (which there isn`t even proof of) means nothing when compared to total sales. And likewise what does season pass have to do with anything? I doubt many, if any, people boycott a game just because it has a season pass so it isn`t really relevant. Plus not only could you bet your ass people would buy a Pokemon spin off for a demo, there are people that bought Type 0 because they actually wanted to play Type 0 and not just for a demo, I know that`s why I bought it.

you claimed that Pokemon is more sucessfull but making more money is more than selling just more units. And pokemon and FF are like day and night, people dont even think pokemon as an RPG let alone as an JRPG

Can`t prove that it isn`t 60% digital, but SE did say it`s 5m including digital, so...

If SquareEnix is to be trusted =p

Why would you only compare it to Pokemon? If you want to play the comparison game fully, you should compare it with GTA V! That comparison clearly shows that Final Fantasy is doing really badly, and we should even call it a failure. Square Enix is doomed.

If you failed to understand the sarcasm: yes, it's ridiculous to compare almost any launch with the Pokemon World Record launch....

I'm a glass full person, so I'll compare this to wonder101 and say it was a massive success.

Making more money? Yeah, there`s more to it than just more units, but you really don`t want to compare something with Pokemon when it comes to money made...  Total worldwide market size: over ¥4.8 trillion http://www.pokemon.co.jp/corporate/en/data/

What does it matter what people think? Pokemon is an RPG regardless.

It matters when people don't like JRPG, but buy Pokemon because it's pokemon
