Forums - Nintendo Discussion - The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has been rated in Australia (M for Mature, ages 15+)

M, really? What the hell is wrong with you Australia?

Our government thinks we're all fragile little snowflakes who would turn into violent criminals if we watched two cartoon characters hitting each other with dandelions.

Here's some games were they recommend "Parental Guidance" for players under 15:

- New Super Mario Bros

- Splatoon

- Smash Bros

- Nintendoland

- Pokemon

So a 15-year-old is considered mature in Australia? Is that why even adults weren't considered mature enough for a lot of games for a really long time?

It's probably a different M than what you're thinking about, if I had to guess. 15 sounds a bit high for Zelda but it shouldn't probably be that strange.

An Australian M is "Recommended for 15 and over". The rating above that is MA, which is "restricted to ages 15 and over", then R, which is "restricted to 18 and over", and X which is also 18+ restricted, but specifically for sexually explicit content.

But that's insane! It's not like those games have Mario getting a nosebleed from seeing Princess Peach, Inklings picking their noses, or Pikachu dealing with a heroine addiction.

Just to add; kids have no troubles buying an M rated game or movie, it's purely advisory for the 3 parents in Australia that actually monitor their children's entertainment.

R18+ is also a joke. Since we finally got the rating for games, the classification board just refuses classification for games anyway.

Do Link and Zelda finally have sex ;)

Don’t follow the hype, follow the games

So as usual the majority got fucked over by the complaints from only a few people.

I know, it's ridiculous.

We didn't even have an 18+ rating for games here until 2011; before that, games rated over MA15+ just got banned, or had to be censored to tone down gore or remove references to drugs. Games like Saints Row IV, Witcher 2, South Park Stick of Truth, Silent Hill Homecoming all had to be edited for release in Australia. One particularly laughable example was State of Decay, which was only allowed to be released if all references to drugs were changed to call them "vitamins".

And I thought Zero Punctuation was the worst thing about Australia. XD
