Easy. Look at the sales. They are very low. Its pretty plain to see that Sony fans don't care about TR like they claim they do. Where is this much larger following?

Um...

1 Tomb Raider II PS 1997 Action Eidos Interactive 2.30 2.46 0.20 0.28 5.24
2 Tomb Raider PS 1996 Action Eidos Interactive 2.29 1.97 0.13 0.24 4.63
3 Tomb Raider III: Adventures of Lara Croft PS 1997 Action Eidos Interactive 1.66 1.58 0.12 0.18 3.54
4 Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation PS 1998 Action Eidos Interactive 1.15 1.14 0.06 0.13 2.48
5 Tomb Raider (2013) PS3 2013 Action Square Enix 0.60 1.26 0.08 0.48 2.42
7 Tomb Raider (2013) X360 2013 Action Square Enix 0.86 0.84 0.01 0.17 1.89

8 Tomb Raider (2013) PS4 2014 Action Square Enix 0.47 0.65 0.06 0.22 1.39
18 Tomb Raider (2013) XOne 2014 Action Square Enix 0.34 0.21 0.00 0.05 0.60

What can we deduce from this? Either Rise of the Tomb Raider wasn't a very good game or someone made a boo boo. I'm going with the latter, since a vote that it was a bad game is against my, and most people who have played it, judgment.

Well to be fair outside of TR2 sales were steadily declining in spite of the huge following. Plus that Sony bought TR exclusivity starting with 2 so it was the only place to get it.

The TR franchise has a much larger following on PS. So how did you come to that conclusion?

Easy. Look at the sales. They are very low. Its pretty plain to see that Sony fans don't care about TR like they claim they do. Where is this much larger following?

Tomb Raider 2013 sold 1.4 millions on the PS4, and 0.6 millions on the Xbox One (so 70% on the PS4). Even on PS3/360 and the similar userbases, it did 2.4M on the PS3 and 1.9M on the X360.

How could you even think about going Xbox exclusive? They completely messed up their game's launch with this timed exclusivity "error" (and I'm really polite), and now nobody cares about the game anymore (not at that price, not one year later, not after Uncharted 4, and not with this end of year competition), people moved on, it's really easy to explain the low sales on PS4 for this one.

A friend of mine bought it so instead of buying it, I borrow it. I couldn't pass the chance of saving $60 for another game.

The decline isn't the key point, though. The franchise has always had a bigger following on PlayStation. So the notion that it should have stayed exclusive to the device it was always likely to sell less on is a head-scratcher. That's what people are getting at.

Yeah because it was with bought exclusivity. Its not like Sony fans were the only ones who liked TR. I bought it on Saturn. But it became the only place to get it. So it kinda leads to my point that it should have stayed on MS.

So, I guess I'm the only one that actually thinks those sales are alright for a year late full price port of a game that already bombed one? *shrug*

That is a flop. Skyrim's remaster sold a lot more.

No one suggested that Sony fans were the only ones interested in it. I certainly didn't. But, you asked for numbers and that was provided to you - proving the series has always been bigger on PlayStation.

Again, it was bigger because it was the only place to get it. MS could have pulled off the same thing with the reboot series.

I still cant get over the fact that they took a bag of money from MS, knowing it would probably kill the sales of the game.

You dont just ignore/pass over 3/4th's of your fan base.... you just dont.
I cant imagine the money MS gave them is enough to cover what they lost doing this deal.

Also wondering what the long term consequences of this is. I mean this could hurt future installments too.

In the end it was just a "really bad" bussiness move.

I figured this was the game to showcase PS4 Pro. Hell, it even has a VR mode.
