For the same reason that Zelda`s an exception. They`re not waiting until after the Wii U release of Zelda and then just saying `hey look, Zelda is now on Switch too, but it again please`, they`re letting people know beforehand that it`s coming to Switch and letting people make an informed decision on which one to buy.

But there was no choice for Zelda, it was already revealed on 2014 for WiiU. I never heard anybody complaining because they didn't know that a third installment of pokemon was coming, Crystal was a GBC exclusive, yet I didn't felt cheated in anyway because I bought Silver for my old GB Pocket several months before nor I know anybody that felt cheated for that in any way. So why is people gonna be pissed with Pokemon Stars? Is just another Crystal.

Ehhh, I think this one is fake.
If there was no 3rd version of Gen 5 or 6, not even a sequel like X/Y 2 for Gen 6, I just can't see them making a 3rd version or sequel to Sun/Moon, and if they do, I don't see Game Freak making it for the Switch and not 3DS.
I'm not buying it.

Edit: Ok, may it is happening. Well, I'll wait and see.

“Pokemon Stars” as the name implies, it is supposedly the “third version” to Pokemon Sun & Moon, like Yellow was to Red & Blue, Platinum was to Diamond & Pearl and so on.

I agree, I don't think its "killing" 3DS sales but definitely will affect on sales of Pokemon 3DS and sales of 3DS itself.

Edit: Oh and it being 95% the same means there`s no reason to need to experience the original 3DS versions first either. I`ll be waiting before buying it now, if this rumour is true then I can get the Switch version, if it`s not true then I can just get a used copy of Sun for 3DS later. All this hiding stuff really isn`t helping Nintendo...

Pokemon games often get a third version (Platinum, Crystal, Yellow etc...), the article is saying Sun and Moon is getting a third version and that version is tailored to the Switch.
