Forums - Nintendo - Pokemon Sun/Moon initial shipments above 10m: 3DS record

It's amazing how far this franchise has come. From phenomenon to an industry staple and cultural brand. I'm not sure how many thought this would last for 20 years but it's amazing that a simple game about capturing, befriending, and battling monsters would be so enduring to people of many demographics. Very few franchises can claim to be as consistently popular and consistently well received as Pokemon. Pokemon is as strong as ever.

Oh wow, wonder how first week will be..

A bit odd that it's not releasing in Europe on the same day?

HOLY SHIT!!!!!If its from Zhuge, it must be true.As far as I know, he always had either solid numbers or was very good with estimations and never "lied".If he was unsure, he would state so.

No, lol, again, he said sold in, he always say sold in for shipments.

And in anyway, most of Zhuge tweet just report news which were already official, he rarely post leaks outside China sales / general things, he surely has no chance to know an important data like this withouth an official annunce from Nintendo.

Ah damn.I blame Sandin for getting me excited.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

So what usually happens if the shipment doesn't get sold? I know it will sell over 10M but this shipment will last a long, long time.

Oh, you're so cute. <3

OT: Impressive numbers. Ryng might be right after all... maybe Pokémon will outsell Infinite Warfare (and everything else) this year. :p

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Well i just come back fro midnight launch.

Pretty much everyone bought both versions. some people bought 4 copies (2 standard and 2 limited editions).

It s the biggest midnight launch I have seen for a Nintendo game.

Normally the que clears in 10-15mins. Today they made evryone pay before 10pm. There was 12 lines being served simultaneously.

Do you live in Australia ? Asia ? 'Cause we're still the 17th here :P

Australia yer.

This makes me happy. Pokemon has managed to remain relevant for a long time now. Its amazing to see how a franchise mainly aimed at the younger players, appeals to pretty much everyone and is still so strong after many years.

Yep. Lots of big seller games recently are all dark and mature.

Snip-

With pokemon selling about 2mil in japan fw, and the news of gamestops stating the games (US) are its best sellers in 2016 and most pre ordered game in the last 5 years (which includes skyrim/gta5/All COD) i guess 10mil might be actually undershipped instead!

Now do you believe us ;p

Given that I'm extremely skeptical by nature, I'd rather wait and see if it crosses 10m indeed before year's end, so until then I'll reserve calling myself wrong.

Thats fair. I was just pointing out with the recent news i highly doubt its overshipped. Maybe we will get numbers this year if not then nintendo quarter report next jan.

If the games are over 11mil especially 12mil+ shipped+digital then that means 10mil wasnt enough (or overshipped)

Im still going with 14mil/15mil+ by years end (ship+digital)

Everyone bought both versions? Interesting.

People who wait in line at a midnight launch or frequent these forums are not accurate representatives of the average pokemon player who buys one. In my experience I had to wait through the weekend for new shipments of Sun to show up as while they had Moon they'd burnt through Sun supplies, so clearly most people are just getting one.

That said, I'm enjoying this one so much that I find myself wishing I'd got the two-pack.
