Gran Turismo creators says PS4 Pro enables games to surpass quality of images in movies

PS4 Pro finally enables video games to deliver image quality which surpasses that of movies, Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi has told PlayStation Blog.

“PS4 Pro marks a historical moment,” said Yamauchi at a recent Gran Turismo Sport event in London. "It’s the first time video games are going to exceed and better the quality of images in movies, broadcasting and packaged media out there."

With GT Sport those with a PS4 Pro and high end 4K TV will be able to benefit from 4K visuals, 60 frames per second, HDR and wide colour.

"I think the world of 4K and 60FPS is a pinnacle for the games industry, and to be able to provide that sort of quality on a home console is something special," said Yamauchi.

Yamauchi explained that thanks to HDR and wide colour real life colours can now be recreated in game.

"All the cars look fantastic in 4K in terms of the detail improvements, but if you look at it from the aspect of HDR and wide colour, about 11% of the cars in the real world today don’t fit into the standard colour space that was possible in games up until now.

"Cars like Ferrari... it wasn’t actually possible to accurately represent that particular distinctive red in games unless you used the wide colour space that’s now available in GT Sport. So the brightly coloured cars out there are now going to look perfect in the game."

Yamauchi concluded: "When we created GT games in the past, people always used to ask is there any way that the graphics quality could get any better, because it was already incredible. But with GT Sport you can really feel the light of the new world in Gran Turismo – and it’s an experience I’d love players to feel."

Gran Turismo Sport will release for PS4 in 2017.

I guess he hasn't seen a movie since the 40s?

So his point is that HDR is the main reason for that? Well, the competition can do that, too.
Also I wonder if he is able to have a native 4k Gran Turismo game operating at 60Hz.

I assume he doesn't watch movies very often

I wouldn't be surprised if Yamauchi watched only Akira Kurosawa classics.

If he truly had that type of technology at his disposal it would literally take him 35 years to churn out the next GT game.

I think i get where he's going with this, but i still can't help but giggle That's really not a good comparison at all.
