Forums - Gaming - [4K] Watch Dogs 2 runs worst on ps4 pro than ps4 - First Look/Analysis DIgital Foudry

Meh. It's obviously going to struggle at higher resolutions with AAA games. Sony should have joined MS in waiting for 2017 for their hardware refresh. A PS4 slim would have been fine as the lone SKU addition. I guess they felt they needed to rush it out for PS VR, lol.

Thing is, PSVR works just fine on the regular PS 4 and, at least on the games I've played, the Pro didn't even improve things that much.

I'm not a fan of the franchise at all but I think this is more of a dev issue than a hardware issue. If nothing else, I'm sure the game can be run in regular mode. Right?

I think the problem may be the resolution is too high.. 1800p might be pushing it.. AAA titles will have troubles running in 4K but I am assuming if they stuck with 1600p max would have been better choice.. and as for regular mode.. No clue.

I'm a bit confused. You 'chuckled' at the idea of this being a developer issue, and then you say you believe the issue is that the resolution is too high... which is a developer decision :p

Just hearing about FF XV's frame pacing issues in HQ mode too. Add in Skyrim, Deus Ex Mankind Divided, The Last of Us, and now Watch Dogs 2...something is amiss with the experience of going Pro.

Disappointing. No Pro game, regardless of 'mode' should run at lesser framerate than the OG PS4. Sony needs to establish a mandate of sorts and perhaps get more involved .

And that IS supposed to be Sony's mandate/requirement for developers.  (along with 1080p min res)
If people are serious about Ubisoft needing to be called on their shit,
they should start demanding refunds on the basis of the game not meeting Sony's own specs.

Lol we get it.

I understand if the game doesn't run better or look way better on the Pro since developers doesn't have to take advantage of it, but a game running or looking worse shouldn't be happening at all.

Will be a easy fix for sony

Yep, if it runs worse then the Pro version needs to be blocked. Sony need to put their foot down no matter how big the game is. It'll just make their product look bad and you'll have fanboys all over the forums saying "Sony released it too early". Or some shit like that. It's bad enough the fanboys letting Phil and Aaron whisper sweet nothings into their ears about how super amazing the Scorpio is going to be. There's going to be disappointment when they realise it isn't that much better and they'll have to pay $250 more for the privilege.

So... Ubisoft did a bad job with optimization in their new game? What's new here?

The new thing is that it goes against Sony's promise. They promised that developers are not allowed to make the game run worse in pro mode.
