Forums - Nintendo - Nvidia CEO: Relationship with Nintendo "will likely last two decades"

Switch has the potential to create a sub category in gaming for the type of device it is which could very well replace the portable market so it's no real surprise Nvidia want to stick around to see what happens. If heavily successful it would be a major win for Nvidia as their tech would essentially be powering the entire portable market with some overlap in the console market.

Let's hope only good things will come out of this partnership.

Sony ought to announce it anyway then just cancel the project later just to damage the Switch launch.

To be honest I don't know the situation with Sony. Vita has sold ok, more than wii u but hardly staggering. A vita with a wireless tv dongle could re-invigorate sales on the back of Switch.

That would be so dickish...

After years in the market, I doubt the Vita can push itself as an alternative against the Switch in any effective way. The device is practically ignored in NA and with just a small userbase in Europe (at least compered to any other PS device over there). Only in Japan stands a decent success, but once the Switch comes out, it will lose its main strenght, being largely underpowered compared to the Switch. A Vita model that uses SD cards should have come long ago if it wanted to establish itself better before the Switch.

It would be dickish but that's business. Yes Vita is weak compared to Switch but the wii outsold the ps3/360 and the performance ratio was far greater. wii gflops 11,  both ps3 and 360 around the 250 gflops area. Vita  51 gflops, switch probably 400-600 gflops possibly less. Vita cpu performance looks to be about 4,400 mips (444mhz x 4 x 2.5mips). About half wii u performance and maybe about 1/8th of Switch. It seems the Vita only clocks its cpu up to 444mhz not the higher figures you see elsewhere in Vita specs.  Turn the Vita into a mobile phone that works directly with a ps4 controller and wireless hdmi dongle. New product to compete with Switch.

Business doesn't work that way mate, an annoucement won't damage the launch in anyway if the is no project behind it especially as Nintendo are the market leaders in the market, not only has Vita lessened Sony presence on the portable scene but the onus would be on Sony to convince consumers of that market as a result.

It would end up backfiring because Zelda alone would ensure Switch has a good launch regardless of an announcement meaning that only a long term strategy from Sony can damage Switch and a false announcement isn't that. Only thing that can damage Switch at launch is pricing.

I seriously doubt Vita can do something to Switch.

The most important part of this is....

in the year 2037, Nintendo is doomed

Thank goodness. That is the exact year I planned on retiring from gaming.

Why so early?

The future of gaming is switch like gaming consoles.
in 1 year, mobile will achieve ps4 levels, a couple years latter, scorpio's performance.
In 20 years, seems that power for gaming wont be any issue. Super ultra powerfull devices in the size of a pendrive. But you still will need a controller. And a screen, if you want to playing on the go. The only hardware that will be next to tv will be a charger. pretty much like switch.

Vita meana life support

We can make this joke because Nintendo already pulled the plug on their own Vita .

The PS3's GPU was from Nvidia , hence why Jen Hsun played the same tune about their Sony partnership back then.

Nvidia probably is truly excited about the deal with Nintendo.  Not because they care about Nintendo, but because they care about making money, growing their business, and making cool tech. They care about Nintendo exactly as far as their interests are aligned.  In the case of the Switch, there's a lot of alignment.

They care because its the most legit customer they have and they took the Tegra chips they couldn't sell. Nintendo jumping on Nvidias mobile chip pretty much just made Nvidia a household name in the mobile space which was near impossible before.

Wow, 2 decades are = 4-5 generations.
