Impressive! You are right, in one guess even. |
I love both Astérix (the comic) and Risk, so of course I had heard about a game that mixed both (Although I never played it, although I think that I tried some kind of demo) in the original PS. I didn't remember that it had platforming sections, but when you mentioned it seemed very natural for an Asterix game - while I wasn't able to think of other European comics that would fit wel in a turn based strategy game), so I googled Asterix PSX in order to have the name right.

Yeah, much of it is basically like a Total War game, but super-simplified in that each turn you just get a set number of reinforments based on how much territory you own which you can then distribute and you can make a set number of moves. Battles are then decided by rolls of the dice I'd assume. There's a couple of provinces which you can only take by beating what's usually a platforming level. They're basically like your regular side-scroller / beat-'em-up style levels and you play as either Asterix or Obelix depending on the level. These bigger levels are always in the same provinces and are indicated on the map by there being buildings or landmarks in them. Every once in a while there's a minigame which, if I remember correctly, are in random provinces and are small whack-a-mole type things.
It's simple and probably a children's game, but it's fun.
#17 Command & Conquer
The original Command & Conquer is the game that introduced me to the RTS genre. It is to this day one of my favourite games in the genre, owing a lot to the strength of its core gameplay that doesn't have any useless elements in it. It also has one of the best video game villains of all time in the leader of the Brotherhood of Nod, Kane. It's still a game I can go back to just about any time and still have fun playing, while many newer games can't hold my attention as well.
And here's a hint for #16:
The biggest game of all time in its genre, and the one that truly broke both its franchise and the genre in general into the mainstream.
Hint #21 - Rolling around at the size of the Moon.
Hint #20 - Fire is color?
Hint #19 - I don't have a good clue for this one. Uhm... Old 2D platformer where you can spin jump.
Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

Astérix as guessed by Entropio
A very unknown and niche game which is actually one of the best the original PlayStation had to offer from it's huge library. You had to be a European though to appreciate 'Astérix' (or 'Asterix: The Gallic War', as it was called in a variety of countries and on PC), because it was only released here. It is a turn-based strategy game in the vein of the newer and much more famous 'Total War' series, but a much lighter, less serious take on the genre.
Like the comic books, the game is about the small Gallic village's struggle to stay independent from the Roman Republic led by Caesar. From the starting village on, the objective is to strengthen your regions and conquer Roman ones by adding doses of "magic potion" to each. Some regions contain a mini-game where the player assumes the role of either Asterix or Obelix, which has to be completed before the region is conquered. These mini-games can be a multitude of different things ranging from a platforming level to a small mini-games.
For a game with such a simple and innocent appearance and being aimed primarily at children, it is actually quite challenging. The game is won when your territory includes all the regions that contain a mini-game and reach all the way to Italy. Being an Asterix game, obviously the game takes place in France, or Gaul to be precise. The challenging nature, along with the variety and the slapstick humor, makes for an addicting little game!
