Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo is screwing those who bought a Wii U

I feel like the only people who jump on this train of thought ironically are people who did not buy a WiiU in the first place.

I've put 80+ hours into the likes of MK8, Splatoon, Smash, Hyrule Warriors, XCX, Mario Maker as well as lots of time with many other games. I don't feel screwed, I feel delighted more people will get a chance to try these games. If it's just a port, I'm not going to cry about it. If ports have enough new content that it is nearly a full sequel, I'll go for it. If not - I can always move on to other games

Whats more is I ll probably buy Mario Kart 8 again, just to play the enhanced edition on the switch.

I guess we'll all have to, when they inevitably shut down the servers for the Wii U version.

I bet it won't be as quick as the shut the Wii servers down.  Wii servers went down quick mainly because Gamespy went defunk.  Sure they might close the servers quicker than others but I don't think it will be as quick as last time.  My guess would be early 2018 is when they turn off 3DS and Wii U servers.

Seriously, whatever changes a Wii U game gets in a Switch port, I want it on the original on Wii U as DLC. It's the very least they can do to their install base. I don't feel like buying a new console to buy the same game i have at full price just to get an update that most probably won't be worth the double dip. When Switch offers NEW games, i might consider getting one, but if you are porting games, i want all the new stuff on the product that it released first.

It's not the consumers fault in my opinion. Consumers should not be forced to study what Nintendo did in the past before buying their new console they're selling. Nintendo did an awful job with Wii U. It's Nintendo's fault. Even considering Nintendo's past, Wii U is one of their worst consoles ever, maybe the worst. It lacks some of Nintendo's own franchises and it was dead one year before the release of the NS. Wii U is horrible, no one could predict that some years ago.

This is absolutely stupid.  There are zero guarantees when you buy a new system of what the future holds.  Anyone who buys a system today because they think game X will come out for it in a year, needs therapy.  I personally have had a lot of fun with the games that I've bought for the Wii U and I've bought a lot of them.

Zero guarantees, but It's still company's fault, not consumer's.

God bless You.

I think you forgot that you are supposed to hate on the Wii U not the Wii in this thread.

Fixed, satisfied?

I own a WiiU and I don't feel screwed for this. For the lack of support maybe, but if Nintendo decides to port the WiiU games to the Switch its ok IMO. If anything is screwing the NS as I feel it has no games yet.

Yeah don't know about the NS part but as a Wii u owner I don't feel screwwed

Yea, just giving you a hard time.  I knew you probably just left the U out but I had to take the bait.  Just goes to show that perhaps people were right the average dumb consumer probably couldn't tell the difference between the Wii and Wii U.

I heard one year ago that it was still an issue. 3 years of Wii U and you still could find people that couldn't tell the difference.

Honestly this speaks to just keeping a simple name and adding numbers behinde it.

If nintendo had just called it Nintendo entertainment system 1,2,3,4,5 ect.

Also easier to brand probably.

You're getting mad at Nintendo for the wrong reasons; you be getting upset that they made a console that was doomed to fail from the beginning, because of their really poor decisions in design and marketing. People didn't buy it, hence why Nintendo is no longer going to waste money supporting it, as well as needing to take the few successful Wii-U titles and use to get NX off to a good start.
