Forums - Nintendo - Why people shouldn't worry so much about the Switch's third party support

Doesn't matter. This isn't a handheld. It won't be marketed as a handheld, it's hardware won't be priced like a handheld, and its software won't be proved like a handheld. The Switch is DOA without multiplats, and with 32GB internal, a 128GB cap on external, and a telling 16GB standard on game card sizes, this thing is not keeping multiplat support.

Literally everything I've been saying is wrong with carts has turned out to be wrong with the Switch, and Nintendo has no more chances after this. If Switch fails, it doesn't matter how much money Nintendo has - their hardware brand will be in the gutter. I know I said that they need to keep the price as low as possible, but if it's st this cost, they should have gone digital only, put in $500GB of storage, and priced it at $399. At least then they could have marketed it as a premium device. I am not looking forward to what we learn on Jan 12.

Coming from the guy who said that Nintendo's next handheld would keep the dual screens approach, the 3D technology in the 3DS and not have any form of physical media support this doesn't really mean much. You've been dead wrong so many times.

We don't even know the price yet of the Switch... The 3DS launched for $250 with barely any games and the same can be said about the Wii U which launched for $350. I think there's a good chance that the Switch will only be $250.

That would sell a lot of units ... to the people who already buy Nintendo games and consoles. Pokemon is the only franchise on that list that would spur growth.

If people aren't interested in 1st party Nintendo games, why would they bother with the Switch anyway?

That's exactly the problem Nintendo has to address if they want to grow their consumer base.

People are worried about the big western third party support, not indie or Japanese

And I just showed you that a hybrid console can release enough games to keep most people busy for a year. The Wii U's main problem, and to a lesser extent the 3DS, were droughts.

droughts of mainstream games not obsure stuff half of us don't care about.

Nintendo's first party is enough to sway me to buy the system, like how it has for the Wii U and 3DS

But if they want to get the people non-Nintendo fans that are slightly interested in Nintendo games and to sell a Lot, they will need 3rd party support :/

Since when are Fire Emblem: Awakening, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Pokémon X/Y, The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, Super Mario 3D World, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate and Pikmin 3 "obscure stuff half of us don't care about"? Those are 9 high profile games.

Look, AAA third party support is obviously a big deal. Just look at the PS4 success. No spinning that.

BUT, the Switch can be an amazing primary console to Nintendo's audience, a great secondary console for many PS4/X1 owners, and an amazing primary handheld for all camps.

It.just.needs.to.be.priced.right.

And no, the Wii U wasn't any of that.

Really? So an awesome Mario game wouldnt pull people in(outside of Nintendo fans), an awesome HD Animal Crossing wouldnt do the same?An Fire Emblem?

After Pokemon GO, people became quite blind to the fact that Nintendo has more than Pokemon that sells hardware.....

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

I think people are also ignoring the big role smartphone games can and will play. We saw the effect Pokémon Go had on older Pokémon games and the 3DS itself. Thanks to smartphones Nintendo IPs can once again become mainstream. People playing the smartphone games might be tempted to try out the real deal on the Nintendo Switch. It will be a great new way for Nintendo to advertise their software and hardware. And we all know that was one of the biggest problems of Nintendo this generation.
