Don't think at the moment, as sony will concentrate on the new vr system

I gotta say that unless Sony get out their chequebook and do some serious money hatting for games I think that would just be a huge flop for them.

Sony's next handheld will be built on the same x86/GCN/GDDR5 tech that powers the PS4. It will be the same as the PS4 to PS4 Pro. All PlayStation games going forward will play on on PlayStation devices. So basically, if you want to build a game for PlayStation, it will have to scale down to the PS4 Phone and PS4 Handheld, it will have to run on the PS4 Slim and Laptop/Tablet, and scale upto the PS4 Pro and future Pro+.

Sony is building it's hardware future and network services future around the PlayStation division. They have a wonderful scalable hardware design that is scalable from mobile to high end home. They will stick to this tech for many more years before shifting gears to compeletly new architecture in the mid 2020's.

Basically we have, Microsoft, Sony, Apple, and Samsung leading the tech industry. Microsoft is focused on the productivity crowed, Sony is focused on the gaming crowed, Apple is the style and social brand, and Samsung is the casual brand.

I'd argue that Apple are the casual brand, they have a lot of customers who know little to nothing on tech. Apple has been touted as the brand for the anti-nerd for decades now and has become such with time.

No. Why would they copy a concept that would make them LESS successful?

Unless the Switch turns out to be a massive success, I don't think Sony or MS will be making their own Switches. Even then, they probably still wouldn't.

Nintendo didn't exactly invent the wheel here. They are tweaking and expanding on pre-existing concepts themselves, so based on that......no? There are some strong similarities between the Vita and Switch. A good thing really. I love the Vita. Has that ever come up?

As this was one of the major reasons why Nintendo didn't want to show off the Switch earlier, and as we know that both companies have a habit to immitate the big innovations Nintendo introduces to the gaming world, do you think thant they are already working on some similar concepts?

Nintendo is copying this time (and one of the last to finally do it) - in terms of a handheld device that can play games and hooking up to a TV.

The PSP/PSP Go has a charging dock that you can hook up to your TV and play with a Dualshock 3 controller.  Hell it even has home console style games to make it feel like both a portable and home console (ie MGS Peacewalker, GoW, Crisis Core etc..).  Hell even the Sega Nomad was able to hook up to the TV i believe, so maybe Sega was the first to do this.  You can already do similar to this as well with MS Surface Pro tablets.

I feel like alot of Nintendo fans ignore these innovation from others because they're so in belief that Nintendo is the only one capable of innovating.  Yes Nintendo has innovated a shit load of things, but doesn't mean that they've innovated ever single thing in the video game world.  The only difference that makes the Switch seem better than others is that because they're the last to do this so they have the better/newer technology to impliment more and newer ideas and features.  If Sega's Nomad and the PSP/PSP Go was to be released the same time as the Switch then you better believe it that they'll have similar/new features like the Switch.

Title of the thread should be "Switch finally copies Sony and MS (and Sega)"

That being said,  regardless of Nintendo's late arrival to hybrid console I still can't wait to get the Switch.  I've always loved that feature when I was playing my PSP Go and I'm excited again with Nintendo.

yeah heres the proof how sony time travelled copied the concept and used it in a commercial. https://www.youtube.com/embed/yzkdnJeFkh8

not to mention they completely ripped off the Switch commercial. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QC7QcE6WEhg

Yeah, these commercials are pretty much identical with the Switch commercial. Is this what advertisement agencys think will click with "the kids"? It did not work very well with Sony fans.

Anyway the Switch commercial got 20 times more views in Japan (  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvaQENG7lBI  ), and 3000 times more views in the west with the "same" commercial.
Why are Nintendo fans looking/liking at this kind of commercial?
...and then they will not buy Switch anyway?

I am surprised that a simple youtube clip could get this much buzz going!

EDIT: OT: MS and Sony will present something similar but will not support it for very long.

Why the surprise? Look at the reveal of the PS4, 33M views. People get excited by new HW. There's also the fact that Nintendo fans know the NS HAS to succeed or Nintendo staying in the HW business is cast in doubt, so I'm sure they're all rushing to that vid and giving it the thumbs up. They are a much smaller group, but still very passionate.

@ OP

Why would they copy? If they wanted a tablet with controls, they could have copied the Chinese company that made it first.  Especially, Sony. They have seen the dwindling HH market first hand. Doubt they will put out PSP2/3 unless there any actual change, which I doubt there will be.

It depends on its sucess. If it's extremely sucessful, I don't see why not.

super gameboy adapter was first in the console world not the sega nomad or the ps vita

You're wrong.

We're talking about a single device that can play on TV and on the go with the same library of games.  Sega Nomad and PSP (not Vita) can do that.

The Super Gameboy adapter you'd have to buy the SNES AND Gameboy AND Gameboy Adapter. That's two different devices that have two different library.  The Super GB adapter is more like making your SNES being backwards compatible with GB games. Or if the PS3 had a PSP UMD slot/Vita slot built in.  You'd still need two different consoles to play at home and on the go.
