Forums - Nintendo - Why I don't like the Joy-Cons

They will be good for stuff like New Super Mario, Mario Kart or Mario Party.

It's cool that you don't have to buy an extra controller to play local multiplayer.

Its a convenient gimmick that will probably do well with kids. I don't see the problem as long as they're available to buy separately as accessories and we don't have to go through Nintendo's bs.

Ah yeah! I can see kids get into this (if they have some knowledge and experience  on treating their devices well, because that Stand might snap off easily and sliding the joy cons on and off)

I feel like there is more to the Joy-Con than meets the eye.

agree i think we will see different designs too. i.e one with a real d-pad perhaps come out.

My biggest concern about the Joy-Cons is that the buttons seem to be small, like Nintendo DS or 3DS small, and I found them to be too small and uncomfortable (remember that it's a personal opinion).

Therefore, unless the Pro controller comes bundled, which I highly doubt, I don't see myself buying the Switch, like I didn't bought the DS or 3DS.

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

Id imagine two mini controllers will be useful when playing the occasional four player mariokart and needing some extra controllers. We also don't know if it has any wii mote functionality in one of them as rumoured.

I'm a little interested in the idea of switchable controller options but Id imagine the switch will have to be successful before we see that. However, I think my most desired custom feature would be a d pad.

As a wii u owned I do get the feeling that the switch doesn't really offer me much new. It looks slicker and has a focus on off tv play, which was the wii u's best feature and it bugged me when it wasn't fully supported.

The big letdown for me with the wii u was the gamepad's battery life and range. I can't have the wii u in my living room and play the gamepad in my bedroom. If they just released a better (and perhaps prettier) gamepad that fixed these issues, and made a policy of always supporting full off tv play, and carried on with the wii u then I would probably be just as happy.

Of course as the wii u bombed that couldn't happen.

I really don't care much because I doubt that I will often use this feature. As well as majority of people who will buy NX. Right now it doesn't seem to be great as a handheld. The battery life will be somewhere around 2-3 hours if this thing is really as powerful as it is supposed to be.

Several things come to mind.

1. Nintendo want the controllers removable in order for the NX to stand as isolated 8" tablet (I suspect well see more of this next year)

2. Convenient local multiplayer on the go+ at home. Out the box you get 2 controllers and Instead of taking full size gamepad out with you the sticks are infinitely more ergonomic. In either case the biggest games (Mario Kart, 2D Mario, Smash) will work quite well with them.

3. motion controls. Nintendo is keeping this hush for now but Eurogamer and Emily Rodgers both reported full on motion controls.

All in all, the detachable controls is just a more ambitious design and allows for a more exciting device. If you end up liking the games that comes to the Switch, a $50 pro controller isn't that steep of an addition. I mean who didn't buy seperate controls for Smash Bros Brawl?

As far as Nintendo's cost are concerned, packaging a built in controller and a seperate one for home console use, would be just as expensive as what they've opted for

When Switch is pitched at families next Christmas, Joy-con will find its intended audience.

I will use the NS Pro Controller as much as possible, I think it's even betetr than the WiiU Pro Controller.

It's a convenience that allows you to have two controllers for multiplayer in situations where you wouldn't expect to play multiplayer.

It's not supposed to be the console's main controller, it's just an added bonus. I doubt it comes at much expense for anyone who's not going to use it.
