chill out, it's not a gimmick, but that's how "hardcore gamers" see the thing

I know, and I find it ridiculous, what a way to void a word from all its sense. I guess mobiles and handhelds are gimmicky too.

*that anger gamers my bad. I'm not sure if that makes you unhappy, that Nintendo can't push innovation because people reject it, but there's one thing that people might not like to hear, but Nintendo is trying to bring innovation to people. It's those people who matter, not Nintendo. If what Nintendo does isn't being received, even if it's good, Nintendo need to take a step back and find a way to introduce it less abruptly. And they need to be more "in" so that their innovations are accepted more easily. Right now the only one of the 3 that's "in" is Sony, and the reason for that is the insane amount of money they inject to be "in", in their relations with 3rd parties, their marketing, their branding, their choice of exclusives. Nintendo is trying, but imho that is their biggest hurdle. Their acceptance in the industry as a whole. Unfortunately they started on the wrong foot (with 3rd parties) and have built a notoriety about it, and some things they cause which people didn't like (Wii shovelware), but it's never to lalte to fix something broken. The switch is a step in the right direction to increase their acceptance. That's what I meant and that's how I feel about it. |
no, i agree with your comment

You're right that no trendy folks will be doing that. All the beautiful, well-dressed people in the commercial? Not gonna happen.
But I do think everyday schlubs like me will go for it. I was just at NYCC a few weeks ago, and a lot of people were passing time in line playing 3DS. I can totally see a bunch of people crowding around the Switch and playing some Mario Kart when outside the home or at an event. It's obviously not ideal, but it works in a pinch.
For me, this is the natural evolution of download play, one of Nintendo's best and most consumer-friendly features.

I said at least for the third time. I like gimmicks but I'm kinda tired of Miyamoto trying to figure out what he's going to do with the second screen instead of thinking what new mechanic could change the gameplay like z targeting, the sanity meter or new mario power ups |
Yeah, that is what I am saying, I was wondering if you would complain if Nintendo introduced a gimmick for the third time.
Maybe I just mistook what you said about being a fangirl, I took it as you proposing what you wrote in OP as some sort of argument against being a Nintendo fangirl.
By the way, read what you wrote about Miyamoto investing effort and time on gimmicks and try to remember what was said about the WiiMote and Gamepad back in the day and you may see that those complaints against those gaming approaches from people wanting more core-gaming focused experiences aren't that out of place.

Idk. Wouldn't be surprised if they do. |
Neither would I.
Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

That's a gimmick, whether you get offended or not, even if you make up silly statements comparing it to mobile and handhelds in general. It's probably going to contribute meaningfully to very few games and yet it's featured heavily in the advertisement. It's a gimmick. I have no idea why anyone would deny that or even get bent over it.

So now local multiplayer is a gimmick? and even if for some non-sense reason you want to see that as a gimmick, does that means the console can be described as gimmicky? Everything is optional, you can play it how you want it, how is that a gimmick?

it's a functionality, and not a gaming for game design. I can connect my laptop to my tv, is that a gimmick too?

Did I say local multi-player is a gimmick? Did you really read that? Stop being obtuse. The split controller working that way is added to make the console seem more social and to perhaps attract a few more people who believe what they see in teaser videos. I get the feeling you're the one who does not understand what the word means. I don't even understand why you get upset over it.
