that aspect ill admit could be seen as a bit gimmicky.

as for playing multiplayer games with just one half of the controller, it will probably be reserved for games with simple control schemes and you will likely need both halves or the pro controller for more complex multiplayer games.

They showed it with NBA 2k16 I believe. Here is the offensive controls for PS4:

Now this will work just fine on a standard switch controller, but I don't see any way you can divide this in two and maintain the same quality of gameplay and controls. It looks like you won't be able to do any of those dribble moves, or call plays,  or call for screens in the Switch 2 player version. For those that are really into basketball games, the limitations could be incredibly frustrating.

This feature just seems so needless. It adds complexity to the design, it makes it far easier to lose or damage parts of your controller, and it adds cost to console. For what? A handful of games that might be able to use it well.

perhaps youre right and just using half the controller is difficult for many games or dumbs down the controls, thats why having options is great.

you can play with the half controllers, or put them together or use the Pro controller.

many games will work absolutely fine with just the small half controllers and the games where it doesnt work fine can just require you to use them together.

its a non issue because its not a mandatory feature.

Just a reminder that this is an opinion thread. Don't call out people on their personal preference...they're certainly welcome to not like or be excited about the Switch if that was their impression.

As for me...I like the form factor a lot, the overall setup, and the list of the 3rd party support looks pretty nice right now. I assume that the power and battery life will take a hit though, so I'm bracing myself for some bad news on that front.

We get it. You think the switch is perfect, and every feature is the best possible way this system could be made.

We actually don't know if there's any way to do local multiplayer without using the two seperate mini controllers. That might be the only option for all we know. You're assuming you can use more than one pro controller, but remember, this is Nintendo. They have made a whole pile of completely non-sensical decisions in the past five years. I wouldn't put anything past them.

Also, it's absolutely hilarious how for every issue someone brings up there's someone stepping in and acting as if it's a non-issue. Useless mini controller? "Nah, it'll work fine, it's an option anyways, duh!" 3 Hour battery life? "The 3DS only has a 3 hour battery life and that sold great!". But all it reminds me is how skewed some people's perspective actually is.. Sure it'll probably work fine with mario, or mario kart. But games have gotten more advanced since them. I guarantee you NBA 2K16 is much more difficult to play with the tiny pads. That's a problem for someone like me who actually plays sports games regularly.

Just remember, you don't get to decide what's a non-issue and what is an issue for me. Just because it's not an issue for you, doesn't mean it can't be a legitimate issue for someone else.

I don't like the switch personally. I love the WiiU for being different with the dual screen etc. Now its just like every other console when you use it as a console. Being portable is nice but that controller just looks awful. Btw how are you supposed to play splatoon without the dual screen ?

Seems to me its just a mediocre console and a mediocre handheld. I wished they would bring 3D games to your 3D tv's, that would have been awesome and a new experience all together but I guess they think not enough people have 3D screens at home.

no need to be so condescending, nothing i have said implies that i think Switch is an almighty infallible device.

youre right we have no way of knowing, so why are you complaining about something that you have no idea will or will not exist? nice double standard buddy.

Nintendo has been far more open than Sony/Microsoft about offering multiple control schemes so i have no idea why you are so worried about being forced to play with only one Joy-Con.

Battery life, hardware power, physical size are legit complaints I think. For some people it will be OK, for others, not so much.

But the controller thing I think is complaining for the sake of complaining. You have many options here, Joycon controllers that can separate from the base are better than nothing, where you're shit out of luck for playing any kind of multi ever if you forgot your Pro Controller at home.

Switch is refreshingly open in its control layouts.

My main dissapointment is no hardware in the dock. It just makes it a portable with a TV out basically to me. Which is OK, it's going to be a good portable experience for me, but it's not going to measure up as a console experience.

That's my main gripe.

I was discusing today with a friend, and I'm curious about peoEpe's answer to this particular question, which I think could probably be key in Switch's sucess. Providing it has decent battery life (please, Nintendo, having decent battery life is a MUST). Which do you prefer? Playing a game with a perfect performance (1080p/60fps) on a console you can't really move from your house, or playing a downgraded, but decent enough performance (let's say 900p/30 fps), but with the possibility of playing anywhere? I'm wondering if the Switch, being obviously underpowered, will have that possibility. Running this gen games with an inferior performance, but still playable.

I prefer portability, honestky. Daily rutine makes me more of a portable person.

I don't think going by difference between what is possible on a PS4X1 and what would be on NVidia Shield this difference is resolution and fps would be enough to justify the difference in power.

They'll take the jump feature out, or make you have to switch screens which will be pretty cumbersome. There goes the chance of being able to manipulate your loadout on the fly too. Which sucks

I didn't like this :P
